AECOM HSSE Engineer in Leuven, Belgium

AECOM is currently seeking a young, driven and self-starting HSSE Engineer to be based in our Leuven office. In this diverse and exciting role you will coordinate and apply our and the clients’ HSSE policies and procedures by supervision and administration of the HSSE Programmes within Belgium and Luxembourg. Your goal is to embed Safety for Life principles within the culture of AECOM, our clients and contractors.
Achieving high levels of compliance on project sites by providing clarification regarding intent and practical.
Increasing awareness and knowledge of Safety for Life and the client safety programme.
Auditing project sites to raise awareness and sensitivity among project staff to hazardous conditions and unsafe practices or behaviours. Supporting contractor use of near-miss reporting and assisting with Permit To Work process and ensures compliance to permitting procedures.
Performing incident and accident investigation process. By the collection of facts, evidence, photographs, witness statements, and other information useful to the Root Cause Analysis process.
Giving HSSE training for AECOM employees on AECOM managed projects.
Helping monitor contractor training programs for compliance with regulatory and AECOM and client requirements.
Assisting Project Managers and Site Superintendents in administering the Site Specific HSSE Plan and developing Site Specific Risk Assessments.
Developing and maintaining emergency plans, contingency plans and emergency call trees for HSSE employees and contractors.
Contributing to aspects of the contractor accreditation program and pre-construction activities related to HSSE.
Accompanying regulatory compliance officers and third party auditors as required.
Monitoring progress with a variety of internal plans: HSSE Plan, HSSE Performance, Training for clients and contractors.
Degree in Safety
2 years construction and industrial safety experience or equivalent combinations training and related experience.
Knowledge of construction methods and practices; local and regional province, and local safety and environmental law and regulation.
Expert in recognition of unsafe conditions, practices, or behaviours and to take appropriate corrective action measures.
Effective interpersonal and communication skills are required. Ability to clearly express thoughts both verbally and in writing. Proficient in use of personal computer including basic office software applications.
Fluency in Dutch and English
Veiligheidscoordinator A or B or willing to follow the training.
French language skills are an advantage.
