  • JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE

  • Responsible for providing safe and effective speech-language pathology and dysphagia services by implementing appropriate evaluation, treatment, and education designed to meet the identified communication and swallowing needs of the patient. Communicates effectively and professionally with patients, families/caregivers, and team members. Promotes teamwork.

  • DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION

  • The Home Health teams at Samaritan Health Services work together with patients, families and health care providers to develop a home care plan that meets a patient’s skilled medical needs. We provide case management and coordination with Providers and qualifying community resources, and can be an additional support and guidance if a patient or a loved one is homebound, recovering from an accident or illness or dealing with the long-term effects of an ongoing health concern.

Adult medical speech pathology training and application experience preferred.

  • EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current unencumbered Oregon Speech-Language Pathology license required.

  • Certificate of Clinical Compliance from the American Speech/Language and Hearing Association, or active participant in Clinical Fellowship Year (CYF) required.

  • Healthcare Provider Level BLS required.

  • Must be able to pass Criminal Records Check per OAR 333-027-0064 upon hire and every three (3) years thereafter.

  • This position requires the use of the employee's personal automobile. Employee must have a valid driver's license and auto liability/property damage insurance as required by law and must maintain their vehicle in good working order.

  • Must be able to travel to multiple points of care.

Ability to adjust actions in relation to others and receive guidance from Physical Therapist to adapt treatment to offer best possible care to patients.

  • Communication: Effective written and oral communication skills to explain complex issues, exchange information between team members, and tactfully discuss issues. Ability to perform group presentations and listen to and understand complex information and ideas.

  • Patient Care: Possess the skills and knowledge needed to assess and treat human injuries, diseases and or behavioral conditions in collaboration with MD orders. Ability to recognize symptoms, understand drug properties and interactions, and employ treatments and preventive health-care measures.

  • Problem solving: Ability to identify complex problems, review related information, employ creativity and alternative thinking to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.

  • Psychology: Knowledge of human behavior and performance, individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation.

  • Social perceptiveness: Social perceptiveness. Ability to work with a diverse population from pediatrics to geriatrics. Basic understanding of age-related differences in caring for and communicating with patients and caregivers. Possess personal sensitivity to the needs and experiences of others and a non-judgmental attitude towards persons of differing standards, values, lifestyles, and ages.
