Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a Management Trainee to be based in our Lloydminster, Alberta location. An applicant must be local to the area or willing to relocate.

This position will be working within the Canadian Operations group. The candidate will receive a variety of training, exposure to a variety of functional areas and mentoring to ensure success. Graduates are qualified to move into a variety of challenging roles within the organization.

May include the following responsibilities:

  • This is an entry-level leadership development program designed to prepare suitable candidates for supervisory and future management positions with AECOM Construction Services.

  • This program will involve “hands-on” field work, which is physically demanding and labor intensive. It will require working extended hours on projects located at the Lloydminster Operations Center . However, candidates must be willing to be mobile to other Operating locations as the business requires.

  • Successful candidates will receive training in all facets of: Production Facilities Construction and Maintenance, Pipeline Construction and Maintenance, Administration, Project Management, Estimating, QA/QC, Safe Work Practices, Sales and Marketing, and other areas of our business related to the energy and resource industries.

  • Candidates must be committed to learning and understanding the tasks at each phase of the training program that will include: proper work procedures, job planning, safety, cost awareness and developing team and customer relations.

  • This position will assist skilled trades people and perform a wide range of tasks at construction sites.

  • Candidates must be outgoing, self-motivated, and have excellent communication and organization skills combined with a strong work ethic.

  • The program is typically two years in duration, but is dependent on the Trainee’s previous experience and accomplishments during the program. Candidates completing the Management Training Program will have the opportunity to pursue a career in a variety of roles in either Operational supervisory roles or Functional positions.

  • The program offers an hourly rate with a guaranteed monthly minimum income after 3 months of employment, and pays overtime when extended hours of work are involved. A comprehensive benefits plan is also included.

This is a full time and overtime eligible position, but shift and work hours will vary based on assigned task/project requirements.

Minimum Requirements

  • Applicants should be recent graduates, or expecting to graduate shortly, with a Construction Technology Diploma, Degree or Diploma in Business and/or registered journeyperson, or holds a valid recognized credential.

  • Applicants must be mobile and willing to relocate to operations within Western Canada.

  • Willingness to travel to different project/work sites

  • Willingness to learn, strong work ethic, and safety conscious attitude

  • Work overtime as needed

  • Physically able, with or without an accommodation, to work in outdoor environments with uneven terrain, variable outdoor conditions including heat, cold, moist, dry, noise, dust, mineral fibers, and chemicals

  • This position will be required to drive a vehicle on behalf of AECOM and therefore will require the candidate to submit a satisfactory drivers abstract for review.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous employment experience in a construction-contracting environment & energy sector is an asset

  • Advanced knowledge in MS Office, specifically Excel formulas, pivot tables, macros and VBA is preferred.

  • Experience in outdoor physical labour or related work experience is required - i.e. Landscaping, general construction labour, road/civil construction, farming and etc.

  • Basic understanding or working knowledge in Electrical and/or Instrumentation

  • Construction Safety Training System (CSTS) Certification or PST (Petroleum Safety Training)

  • H2S Alive Certification

  • First Aid - Standard Level Certification

  • An ideal candidate must be local or willing to relocate
