Are you a Catastrophe Model Developer with particular expertise in Atmospheric and Climate Physics? Do you have strong skills in GIS and statistical analysis? Do you seek to develop your understanding of catastrophe modelling through the utilisation of tools and programming languages such as Python and ‘R’? We are seeking someone who can combine these skills and experience with a desire to add real value to our clients and broking teams globally.

Department Overview

The Catastrophe Model Developer works as part of our Global Model Development team which is responsible for the development of catastrophe models used to quantify risk and price reinsurance for countries and perils where commercial models are unavailable.

Key Responsibilities

The candidate would be expected to lead the technical components of atmospheric models with specific focus on extreme weather conditions and climate change. Responsibilities include, but are not be limited to;

  • Leading the development of risk products from global reanalysis datasets

  • Examining impacts of climate change on El Niño/La Niña weather patterns and the implications for tropical cyclone formation and landfall

  • Developing approaches to determine the impact of climate change on agricultural production

  • Represent the company at client and scientific meetings, and assist in other related projects


Skills & Experience


  • Ph.D. (or equivalent) specialising in atmospheric physics with direct knowledge of climate change issues

  • Advanced experience modelling atmospheric processes, extreme weather and climate change risks

  • Intermediate/advanced skills in GIS, databases, and statistical analysis

  • Intermediate programming skills (Python and/or R preferred)

  • Advanced English language skills, both oral and written


  • Intermediate knowledge of Computational Fluid Dynamics

  • Intermediate experience presenting technical information to non-technical audiences

  • Project management experience

  • Other language skills an advantage but not required
