Where you fit

You’re going to be key to our success, working as a hands-on technical expert within the data and analytics team in Shell’s Gas, Power and Environmental trading division – which represents the biggest growth space, with Power especially trading critical in terms of electrification.

This is a fast-paced and dynamic environment with ever changing needs, where you’ll be working on a data and analytics platform that supports traders, analysts and operations teams by providing IT tools, data and analysis.

What’s the role?

Your input is going to be vital, providing data and analytics expertise, as you play a key role in the development and deployment of innovative big data platforms for advanced analytics and data processing. Helping to define and drive faster, better, data-informed decision-making within the business.

You’ll be identifying the relevant data for gathering, as well as implementing the solution to do so, ensuring that data flows smoothly from source to destination. Simply put, that means capturing data, then presenting it, for the desk analyst to utilise in ways that will support key decision-making.

Your experience at working under pressure, to tight deadlines will come into its own here, as you manage wide-ranging duties, including:

  • Developing tools within an Azure cloud platform and spotting opportunities to drive the data platform forwards.

  • Following data engineering standards and processes.

  • Designing and implementing data pipelines to extract, clean and process data from different data sources.

Naturally, we’ll also expect you to use your excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work successfully with diverse global stakeholders, and nurture relationships with traders and teams that moves data engineering forward.

Requirements:

What we need from you

Alongside your Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration or another related discipline, we’d look to see a proven track record delivering data platforms. Beyond that, we’re keen to talk to men and women with as many of the following on your CV:

  • Skills in IT Architecture, business analysis and integration solutions.

  • Data interpretation expertise, with troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

  • Experience with big data platforms, data architecture and design techniques, and working with large data sets.

  • Proven range of technical skills, including Open Source Frameworks, coding skills, reporting/visualization tools, SQL-based technologies, and experience with data blending technology.

  • Experience in a trading environment (particularly Gas and Power) will be a significant advantage.
