Marsh & McLennan Financial Accountant - Controllership in London, United Kingdom

This role forms part of the Controllership function within our London office.
This Financial Accountant role will assist with the accounting and financial reporting activities for the consulting businesses within MMC - Mercer and Oliver Wyman.
A highly varied role with 50% of your time spent on BAU work such as reporting activities including variance analysis for P&L and balance sheet, month end close, preparation, review and approval of balance sheet reconciliations and preparation of statutory tax returns. The other 50% will be spent on a wide variety of ad hoc activities such as Acquisitions (due diligence) , integrations, internal control reviews, accounting memos, changes in accounting policies, payment processing in line with new legislation SOX and internal audit remediation and assistance with acquisition accounting.

Basic accounting processes such as preparation of Statutory Accounts etc is performed by our Accounts Hubs and will form no part of this role.

The successful candidate will need to be confident that they are able to understand processes, make improvements where necessary, document the process and help with the training of other team members. They must be able to liaise with people at all levels across the Organisation and be committed to delivering a high quality service to tight deadlines.

The position will suit a pro-active, results-led individual who is able to balance multiple deliverables whilst satisfying a strict control environment by retaining the highest standards of governance. The Candidate must be flexible as workloads and duties can change at short notice.

The role will have the following responsibilities:

Clients:

Query resolution completed in a timely and accurate manner Provide advice and expertise to non-accountants on financial matters Build and manage successful relationships with internal and external clients People:

Provide support, training and mentoring to other members of the team

Process:

Support the monthly and quarterly closing processes; track, document and resolve issues that arise related to closing. Organise the remediation of internal audit and Sox findings Assist in the development and implementation of internal general accounting policies and procedures Respond to assigned audit requests Provide financial expertise to ad-hoc projects including the preparation of Accounting Memos to support complex accounting matters. Financial:

Conduct variance analyses; explain variances between actual results and budget or prior year to include the preparation of the monthly Pre Flash and Flash memos as well as quarterly balance sheet commentaries. Assist in the preparation and review of monthly and quarterly financial statements, reports and analyses Prepare tax returns and statutory returns Review and approve balance sheet reconciliations Conduct due diligence reviews for acquisitions and draft accompanying memos Qualifications Associate, Institute Chartered Accountants (E&W) - ICAEW - Institute of Chartered Accountants England & Wales Chartered Institute of Management Accountants - Associate - Chartered Institute of Management Accountants Certified Chartered Accountant - Association of Chartered Certified Accountants ACCA A minimum of 5 years experience in an accounting role 2+ years working in an accounting role for a professional services firm would be considered beneficial Good knowledge of US GAAP Advanced skills in Excel Prior experience of Oracle and HFM Prior experience with statutory financial statements and tax returns would be advantageous Marsh & McLennan Companies is a global professional services firm offering clients advice and solutions in the areas of risk, strategy and people.
