Shell Senior Legal Counsel Financial Regulatory in London, United Kingdom
Senior Legal Counsel Financial Regulatory
No. of Positions:
This role is based in the London based Legal team of Shell’s global Trading & Supply network of companies, where the executive management of that network also sits. In this environment, you will need to be comfortable and assured in dealing promptly with requests for advice on regulatory matters from business clients, front-line trading staff and compliance colleagues in a fast-moving and, at times, pressurized business environment.
Shell Trading & Supply one of the largest energy traders in the world. It is a key business for the Royal Dutch Shell group, closely connected, as an integrator, to the Upstream, Downstream, Integrated Gas and New Energies businesses, and leveraging significant value for the Group.
Shell Trading & Supply comprises a worldwide trading network with a global portfolio in crude oil, refined products, biofuels, environmental products, LNG and natural gas, power and chemicals. Beyond the Trading network, Shell Trading & Supply provides an extended supply and distribution network delivering oil, gas and refined products, and LNG as fuel. Shell Trading & Supply also houses one of the largest LNG shipping operators in the world: Shell Trading & Supply manages over 40 LNG carriers and 10 oil tankers.
What you will be doing?
Your role will be to provide real-time, proactive legal advice on all regulatory and compliance matters as relating to STASCo, Shell’s principal regulated London based trading and supply (T&S) organisation, and its other UK trading entities, including all relevant financial regulatory requirements, financial crime, trade controls, compliance policies and standards, market related issues, investigations, exchange and other platform trading.
You will have significant access as an adviser to the T&S global leadership team and will work hand in hand with and alongside the Compliance teams. You will provide legal advice and support on all regulatory matters as are relevant to the business-facing lawyers in STASCo for crude, products, carbon trading, gas and power, LNG, supply and shipping, the associated financial trading/hedging, structured trade finance transactions, and other new business models developed by the business against a backdrop of fast-paced changes largely driven by developments in the digital, New Energies, and carbon trading spaces.
You will also need to link with the Royal Dutch Shell Ethics & Compliance Office and other Group stakeholders in relation to matters of common concern. Your expertise will be needed to advise other areas of the Group, (principally in the New Energies space) where required in relation to activities taking place in that space and which have a regulatory angle, and particularly where those activities tie in with T&S business.
Depending on the outcome of the UK’s intended departure from the EU, and the terms on which any departure is secured you will advise the business on an ongoing basis on Brexit preparations and support the implementation of any required corporate and trading structural changes necessitated by Brexit once it has taken place.
You will also advise on potential corporate restructuring solutions and various corporate activities relating to STASCo, to ensure that the regulatory footprint and business model is as efficient and optimal as it can be.
