The Operations Team lead will act as the senior oil operator and subject matter expert within Products and will take supervisor responsibilities for the management and professional development of 6-7 Products Oil Operators as well as potentially provide coverage across the different desks.
The incumbent will be responsible to ensure all activities are conducted in compliance with HSSE and regulatory guidelines and procedures. At the same time the goal will be to deliver value through operational excellence and commercial agility.
The STASCo Products Trading floor covers international trading business across 3 different markets: LPG, Chem-Feed and Base Oils. The main trading activity occurs within NWE, Med, and Africa and includes liaison with other GTn entities for transactions beyond this region
Commercial Operations day-to-day activity includes executing the physical operations of the oil trading & Time-Charter vessel portfolio, refinery feasibility and supply-chain planning. Close liaison with Oil & Freight Traders is required to ensure that all contractual and operational obligations arising from our deals are carried out.
By working as part of a team, the Commercial Operator must specifically seek to add value by exercising embedded commercial and logistical deal options and use a pro-active approach to problem solving. The Operator is tasked with highlighting any contract optimisation opportunities, thinking on their feet to deal with contractual problems (e.g. off-spec cargoes, vessel delays, etc) and ensuring that these are managed professionally and optimally for the trading business. The Operator should also be constantly looking for process improvement opportunities and areas where cost can be managed effectively.
The role consists of managing day-to-day operational activity, alongside team-leadership of a wider group.
Regarding leadership the incumbent will be required to:
Have a good understanding of the wider business supply chain and the Supply and Trading strategy for the 3 teams across Products Oil Ops
Provide support and guidance to the team in reference to day-to-day execution and process issues
Conduct performance reviews for 6-7 team members
Provide support to Ops Manager regarding team-planning and assessment of candidates for Commercial Ops vacancies
Provide coaching and on-boarding guidance for new team members across the Products floor
Become key focal point within Products Oil Ops for Business Development projects
Work closely with the Ops Manager to ensure the team goals are met as well as provide stand-in cover for the Ops Manager during leave periods
Initiate, develop & implement Continuous Improvement ideas to increase efficiency & effectiveness within Products Ops
Increase awareness of HSSE within Products Ops
Initiate, develop & implement new ideas to increase commercial awareness of Products Operators to add value to the bottom line of the trading books & associated supply-chains
Champion “next-gen” initiatives within Products Ops

Ideal candidate will have at least experience in Oil or Freight operations,
Familiar with Shell Trading environment
Previous leadership experience is preferred
Experience of blending, storage and business development is desirable
Highly developed prioritisation skills will be needed in balancing the needs of unpredictable day-to-day demands with leadership accountabilities
