We are looking for a Technical Service Specialist – Calcium Chloride Products located at our Plant in Ludington, MI.

Primary Function

This Ludington, Michigan based job will be responsible for increasing demand for our Calcium Chloride Products through effective technical representation to the key markets: Deicing (Walkways and Road); Municipal Dust Control and Road Base Stabilization; the Oil and Gas industry (downhole drilling); and the Food industry.

The successful candidate will provide technical sales support by promoting product performance and application solutions to our customers and potential customers. This role requires a results oriented individual with technical creativity, who will excel in a team environment, has a proven track record of demonstrating an initiative and has strong communication skills both verbal and written. The successful candidate will help develop and grow long term demand for our products by leading and continuously supporting application development and differentiating performance versus competitive products. The candidate will also have responsibility for providing leadership and direction in support of our Good Manufacturing Practices required for our Food Grade products.

Essential Functions

Functions that must be performed in order to fulfill Primary Function stated above include:

  • Respond to customer technical inquiries in a timely and effective manner.

  • Develop and maintain technical expertise in all strategic applications.

  • Support existing markets by conducting competitive product performance assessments.

  • Provide technical support for the development of sales literature and web-based information.

  • Participate in technical conferences and tradeshows through involvement with technical committees, making presentations and networking with attendees.

  • Maintain key product information so that customer “Frequently Asked Questions” documents are maintained.

  • Fill the SQF Practitioner an FDA Qualified Person roles for the business

  • Support appropriate sales specifications, MSDS’s, product bulletins, and other sales support required to ensure suitable product quality and sales literature is maintained.

  • Support customer service, marketing and sales to ensure the safe use of our products.

  • Attend and participate in key tradeshows including making technical presentations.

  • Support the sales team with Distributor Training to effectively communicate product and performance benefits.

  • Lead sales effort to develop and gain customer purchase specifications for larger end-users.

  • Support product sales development in the Treated Salt Industry.


Education/Certification/Other Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical or Civil Engineering with a minimum of 5 years sales and/or technical service preferred

  • Effective team player and results oriented.

  • Demonstrates initiative and will drive change where appropriate.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills;

  • Strong time management and organization skills

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision

  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time

  • Proficient in the use of Excel, Word, PowerPoint and SAP

  • Certification in FSPCA Preventive Controls for Human Food preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Climb multiple flights of stairs to access the top of tanks, buildings, and process equipment.

  • Ability to work around chemicals such as hydrochloric acid, calcium chloride, magnesium hydroxide, sodium hydroxide, lubrication oils, greases, and chemical cleaning agents

  • Ability to wear all required PPE.
