have a strong understanding of large scale solutions and take pride in keeping

existing technical skills while developing new ones, so that he/she can make

strong contributions to deep architecture discussions around systems and

applications whether on-premises or in the cloud.

He/she should

demonstrate the ability to think strategically about business, product, and

technical challenges when driving deep-dive design exercises along with

customers and partners to develop mindshare on Oracle enterprise solutions.

Roles and Responsibilities

There are four major

roles that the Solution Engineer needs to play – Trusted Advisor, Technical

Subject Matter Expert, Pre-Sales Consultant, and Technology Evangelist.

  • Trusted Advisor

  • Understand customer’s business priorities – what are themotivations, what is their growth or cost optimization strategy, how doesregulation affect their business

  • Understand the technology landscape of the customer – what systems are they using, what aretheir technology preferences and limitations, do they have a cloudpoint-of-view, understand the customer’s technology decision-makingprocess

  • Identify key stakeholders in the customer and establish workingcommunication with them to be able to share Oracle’s point-of-view andgain deeper insight

  • Develop documentation that reflects understanding of customers’priorities, landscape, and requirements

  • Technical Subject Matter Expert

  • Build level of expertise in Cloud Technology, ApplicationArchitecture, Databases, Web and Middleware

  • Understand product offerings and identify applicability and usecases, ability to match requirements with solutions

  • Support and develop existing customer and partner relationshipsand skills

  • Work alongside partners and other third party organizations asrequired

  • Pre-Sales Consultant

  • Translate customer requirements into deliverable solutions

  • Lead the solution development and coordination with other internalSMEs and stakeholders in putting together a technically sound andcommercially viable solution that has proven success in delivery andimplementation

  • Design and participate in technology pilot projects or proof-of-concept(POC) activities

  • Effectively articulate the value of the solution by conductingsolution presentations to multiple stakeholder levels within the customer(technical to CxO level)

  • Work with account managers in developing roadmaps and salesstrategies

  • Provide technical support in all necessary sales activities

  • Prepare configurations of software, hardware, and cloud productsto respond to customer requirements

  • Complete the technical requirement for request for information(RFI) and request for proposal (RFP)

  • Help drive sales opportunities to successful completion

  • Technology Evangelist

  • Convey Oracle’s solutions and value in multiple scenarios - 1:1 or1:M settings

  • Conduct demand generation activities to develop leads and prospects

  • Represent Oracle at marketing events as required

  • Experience in being involved with technology projectimplementation is needed - to have an understanding on what it means tohave various stages of development and production

  • Experience in designing solutions that involve cloud technologies,3-tier architectures, or more complex environments which have beenimplemented

  • Domain or industry knowledge – at least 5 years of experience ininterfacing with business stakeholders and have functional understandingof the business or industry

  • Successful Pre-sales/Sales experience in an internal or externalenvironment is highly valuable – to have a shorter runway to startgetting productive, understanding of the sales and buying process willhelp

  • Skills

  • The candidate must be an excellent communicator,able to develop and articulate complex technology issues in astraightforward way to both decision makers and technical personnel alike

  • Should have deep knowledge and understanding of the followingareas:

  • Cloud architecture, cloud technology, and CSPs – why cloud, whatare the service and deployment models, able to differentiate acrossservice and deployment models

  • Complex application architectures – multi-tier, database,networks

  • Oracle database technology and competitive landscape

  • Linux and Unix operating systems

  • High availability components for network, application, databaseand infrastructure

  • Virtualization and clustering technologies

  • Security priorities and solutions

  • Hardware architecture – servers, storage, networking

  • TCP/IP Networking – familiarity with switches,routers, IP addressing, and NAT

  • Working knowledge in the following areas is an advantage:

  • Strategic Information systems analysis and planning

  • Technical design authority role for large projects

  • Design of data centers – power, space, and cooling

  • Knowledge of Oracle's technology solutions (database andmiddleware) as well as applications portfolio

Detailed Description and Job Requirements

Provides direction and specialist knowledge in applying the technology/application to client business. Facilitation of customer product/application understanding through presentations demonstrations and benchmarks; provision of support throughout the sell.

As a Principal Sales Consultant you will be responsible as the expert for formulating and leading presales technical / functional support activity to prospective clients and customers while ensuring customer satisfaction. Acts as a technical resource and mentor for less experienced Sales Consultants. Focuses on large or complex sales opportunities that need creative and complex solutions. Develops productivity tools and training for other Sales Consultants. Develops and delivers outstanding Oracle presentations and demonstrations. Leads any and all aspects of the technical sales process. Advises internal and external clients on overall architect solutions.

Leading contributor individually and as a team member, providing direction and mentoring to others. Work is non-routine and very complex, involving the application of advanced technical/business skills in area of specialization. 3 years vendor (sales and marketing) experience. 7 years business experience with relevant computer applications or database/tools. Ability to implement the most advanced product features. Thorough knowledge of system and application design. In depth knowledge of competitors. Demonstrated project management skills. Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills: needs analysis, positioning, business justification, closing techniques. Ability to persuade others through presentations, demonstrations, and written communication. Ability to travel as needed. A/BS degree or equivalent, advanced degree highly desirable.
