Overview:

Reviews patient accounts and ensures their accuracy and completeness, determines appropriate billing/collections processes and processes statements, monitors outstanding accounts processes refunds for overpayments, receives and answers billing-related inquiries, and assists in the preparation of billing reports.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Prepares appropriate billing statements for self-pay, Medicare, Medicaid and/or third-party payers.

  • Monitors the status of outstanding accounts and identifies those past due accounts for follow-up action.

  • Submit claims to Medicare, Medicaid and/or third-party payers in a timely manner.

  • As required, processes refunds for overpaid accounts.

  • Receives and answers inquiries from patients, insurance companies, Medicare and other parties regarding changes and/or billing discrepancies.

  • Assists in the preparation of billing activity reports.

  • Reviews patient account documentation received from the branches for eligibility.

  • Identifies any missing information for new admissions and follows up with appropriate branch office personnel.

  • Files complete patient account files according to established procedures.

  • Collects patient admission and other related statistics for the Reimbursement Supervisor to assist in the compilation of billing activity reports.

  • Receives and reviews past due bills and follow up documents to determine the nature and extent of delinquency problems and any actions taken by patients or third-party payers. Confers with the Reimbursement Supervisor as needed to obtain additional information or clarification.

  • Performs special projects as assigned.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Education, Experience and Skills:

  • 3-5 years of billing/collections experience in Home Health or related industry (Hospice, Hospital, Physician, etc.)

  • 3-5 years’ experience with Medicare, Medicaid and Private Insurance billing/collections.

  • High school diploma required college courses in accounting preferred.

  • Must have strong work ethics.

  • Well organized and a self-starter.

  • Ability to follow standard filing procedures.

  • Detail oriented, professional attitude, reliable.

  • Proficient in Excel and Word, 10-key by touch.

  • Possess strong organizational and time management skills.

  • Strong problem-solving skills, basic accounting principles knowledge, documentation skills, research and resolution skills, data analysis and multi-tasking skills.

  • Interact with others in a professional manner.

  • Speak and write English.

  • Work independently and with a team in a fast-paced and high-volume environment with emphasis on accuracy and timeliness.

  • Handle confidential information in a discreet, professional manner.

  • Eye for detail, accuracy is imperative.

  • Able to meet deadlines.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Organizational and analytical skills.
