The IBM Watson Health Imaging business unit is looking for talented individuals destined to usher in the next era of IT-transformed healthcare. This role will leverage your leadership skills to provide the services and functions Watson Health requires using IBM Cloud.

As part of the architectural team, this position focuses on applications that provide the system of engagement for end users and the system of interaction for integration. Working with the agile delivery teams, the architect serves as an energetic and positive technical facilitator. The architect understands and contributes to the organizations strategic direction and ensures that all deliverables make progress towards converge with the technical strategy, often spanning numerous releases.

Principle Responsibilities & Duties

  • Analyse business and user requirements for clarity, completeness, scope, and technical feasibility. Decompose requirements into system and software functional designs.

  • Provide software and deployment architectural designs that are secure, robust, scalable, testable, and serviceable.

  • Provide mentoring for more junior contributors.

  • Produce technical documents software designs that describe the system’s intended behaviour.

  • Participate in the review of cross-functional delivery artifacts including requirements, architecture, and quality assurance,

  • Pursues a program of continuous self-development.

  • Performs other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor or upper management.

  • Respond positively to changing needs of the business. Continuously reprioritize work to enable a diverse set of stakeholders to move forward.

  • Takes an appropriate level of risk based upon scope of responsibility, scope of control, and scope of influence.

This role will involve working with technology that is covered by embargo Export Regulations. If you are a Foreign National from any of the following embargoed countries (Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan, and Syria) on a work permit, you are not eligible for employment in this position.

Basic Qualifications .

  • Proven comprehensive knowledge of how cloud computing is changing the delivery model for software and services.

  • Possess extensive knowledge of continuous, global delivery of secure Java web applications and RESTful services.

  • Proven ability to innovate and propose thoughtful solutions to both new and existing problem areas.

  • Demonstrated understanding of how to build highly available solutions at global scale with high resilience.

  • Competence with the entire web stack with a Java service layer, container based delivery, and high level networking/routing.

  • Proven ability to establish and maintain a secure deployment posture. Detailed understanding of VPNs, firewalls, Web application security, intrusion detection, denials of service, end-to-end encryption, etc.

  • Proven ability to design solutions for entire delivery lifecycle

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to create and consume standard software development collateral.

  • Ability to identify and escalate gaps in solution understanding and viability of the solution to meet user needs.

  • Experience managing large datasets across multiple availability zones would be an asset.

  • Experience with micro-services and dynamic routing would be an asset.

  • Experience working with Kubernetes would be an asset.

  • Experience working in a regulated environment, especially healthcare, would be an asset.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

  • 3+ years architectural experience

  • 5+ years experience technical leadership experience.

  • 5+ years experience with Java.

  • 2+ years experience working within an agile development process
