About the role The Taxation Leader will be responsible for the management of all tax responsibilities of the Mercer Funds in Australia. In particular, the role will have responsibility for managing the delivery of regular tax compliance services and the co‐ordination of services provided by Mercer’s external tax advisors.
The Taxation Leader will also have responsibility for the review and implementation of tax related policies and processes and to work with Mercer’s product and investment teams on key product initiatives. The role oversees a small taxation team providing taxation related services to our Consumer Wealth, Institutional Wealth and Mercer Administration Services clients.

Responsibilities:

Management of Mercer’s direct and indirect tax compliance responsibilities including income tax, capital gains tax, GST etc.

Management of Mercer’s external tax advisor relationships and work in partnership with the external advisors where required

Work with the Funds custodians to ensure that they are providing appropriate information for income tax and GST purposes

Review of the Funds annual income tax provision for financial statement purposes and manage the review of trust distributions and tax statements

Ongoing review and management of Funds’ unit pricing tax accruals and DTA positions in line with Board policies and agreed processes

Ensuring that the Funds operate within the requirements of relevant tax policies and procedures and risk management/compliance framework

Participation in and management of other tax related initiatives such as new business proposals/installations, and assisting the Investments business with Fund restructures/new funds etc. Qualifications Skills and experience:

Tertiary qualifications in business, accounting, commerce or a related discipline

CPA or CA qualified

Ideally, 10-15 years minimum post qualification experience in tax roles preferably with experience in managing the taxation arrangements of superannuation fund and/or investment trusts

Strong technical knowledge of superannuation and unit trust accounting and tax matters

Comfortable working in a ‘hands on’ role within in a small team

Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with and influence a wide range of stakeholders
