In addition, this group provides an enterprise-wide view of risk, assists management and our Board of Directors in identifying and monitoring risks that may affect multiple lines of business, and takes appropriate action when business activities exceed the risk tolerance of the company.

This Operational Risk Consultant 5 position will join the Wells Fargo Asset Management (WFAM) Operational Risk Team. The WFAM Ops Risk Team is responsible for consulting with the LOB on corporate operations risk policy and processes, performing business initiative risk assessments, and providing general risk oversight. Dedicated operational risk consultants are responsible for ensuring risk controls and associated ratings are accurate and that prior issues, losses, and regulatory risks are considered.

The WFAM Ops Risk Team is seeking a candidate who will lead several of the WFAM Risk Team strategic priorities and risk program elements. This individual contributor will report to a manager on the WFAM Risk Team and will collaborate with team members across WFAM Ops Risk Team, WFAM, and WIM.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Developing, implementing, and monitoring risk-based programs to identify, assess, and mitigate any operational risk that arises from inadequate or failed internal processes, people, systems, or external events.

  • Creating and monitoring risk appetite metrics and reporting for a range of audiences.

  • Performing risk assessments to identify, assess, and mitigate risks across lines of business and risk domains across multiple risk categories (i.e. investment, operational, strategic, sales, reputational, regulatory risks).

  • Addressing and documenting the more complex business areas and risk topics and providing enterprise risk and/or operational risk expertise and risk assessment of current and emerging risks, including consulting on new products and new product initiatives with high risk, and periodic reviews of risk program areas.

  • Evaluating the adequacy and effectiveness of policies, procedures, processes, systems, and internal controls, and analyzing extremely complex business and/or system changes to determine impact and implementation readiness.

  • Identifying operational risk issues; may participate in the development of risk ratings.

  • Reporting findings and developing business cases to influence executive management or management committee member/head of business on the need for controls to mitigate risk.

  • Consulting with business to develop corrective action plans and effectively manages change.

  • Reviewing root cause analysis and reports findings, and developing business cases to influence executive management or management committee member/head of business on the need for controls to mitigate risk.

  • Updating risk program and training for internal and external environment change.

  • Benchmarking with peers.

  • Leading project/virtual teams and mentoring lower level staff.

  • Providing strong leadership and direction, and monitoring and driving progress thereby ensuring that work is accomplished through teams/team members/specialists as well as cross-functional/virtual teams.

May directly manage 1-2 specialists/consultants.

Required Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in compliance, operational risk management (includes audit, legal, credit risk, market risk, or the management of a process or business with accountability for compliance or operational risk), or a combination of both; or 10+ years of IT systems security, business process management or financial services industry experience, of which 5+ years must include direct experience in compliance, operational risk management, or a combination of both
