Hilton Director Engineering in Miami, Florida

As the Director of Engineering, you will be responsible for providing Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing engineering support for franchise development projects, owned and managed development projects, Capital improvement projects for company-owned, leased, JV hotels and managed assets and for potential acquisition properties. The geographic region covered by this position will include Latin America and the Caribbean, so being fluent in English and Spanish is a requirement.

What will I be doing?

As the Director of Engineering, you will be responsible for:

Franchised Properties -

  • Reviewing 50% and 90% focused serviced design documents of all mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems for compliance with Brand Standards and good design practice
  • Preparing written review comments and submit to Hilton Project Manager for distribution to design and construction team and verify that comments have been incorporated prior to construction
  • Providing at least one on-site review of mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems at 50% Construction and least thirty (30) days before opening, and complete a site visit report of findings and recommendations
  • Reviewing primary mechanical, electrical and plumbing equipment submittals during construction for compliance with Brand Standards
  • Assisting with development or modifications to focused service Brands that would improve prototypical design
  • Assisting with development of modification to full service and luxury Brands that would improve overall design

Owned and Managed Assets -

  • Providing technical assistance for owned or managed assets by meeting with the Owned/Developer/Designer/Contractor and recommending appropriate design solutions that comply with Brand Standards
  • Reviewing required design submittals for compliance with Brand standards and good design practice
  • Preparing written review comments and submit to Hilton Project Manager for distribution to design and construction team and verify that comments have been incorporated prior to construction
  • For full service and luxury brand projects, complete up to four (4) on-site reviews of mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems. Prepare site visit reports of findings and recommendations
  • Reviewing primary mechanical, electrical and plumbing equipment submittals during construction for compliance with Brand Standards
  • Assisting with development of modifications to full service and luxury Brands that would improve prototypical design
  • Assisting with development of modification to full service and luxury Brands that would improve overall design

Capital Projects for Owned and Managed Assets -

  • Coordinating with the VP of Capital Project Management and VP of Engineering to provide technical services and direction on projects that require mechanical, electrical or plumbing modifications
  • Reviewing budgets for Capital Projects and provide recommendations for budget adjustment or changes based upon the technical requirements
  • Reviewing primary mechanical, electrical and plumbing equipment submittals of the systems
  • Providing on-site review of project progress when deemed necessary
  • Working with vendors listed on Supplier’s Corner to provide working relationships with Hilton Project Management staff

Controlling Activities -

  • Directing and implementing proper controls regarding Engineering Support
  • Implementing and maintaining systems within Engineering Support
  • Translating organizational goals and objectives into performance standards for division, departments and individual positions
  • Assessing actual performance against standards to determine whether the department is on target to reach its goals and takes corrective actions as necessary
  • Ensuring business plan and goals are being followed and achieved, providing feedback or revising the plan, if needed
  • Establishing and enforcing policies and procedures that will improve the overall operation and effectiveness of the Company
  • Monitoring return on invested capital and time resources
  • Evaluating Engineering Support within targeted markets
  • Working within established departmental budget
  • Reviewing and making appropriate adjustments in activities and expenses throughout the fiscal year to ensure optimal financial results

Supportive Functions –

In addition to performance of the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of the following supportive functions, with the percentage of time performing each function to be solely determined by the supervisor based upon the particular requirements of the company.

  • Partnering with other management to achieve successful results through the engineering process
  • Any and all other job duties as assigned

What are we looking for?

To fulfill this role successfully, you must possess the following minimum qualifications and experience:

  • Minimum Education: BA/BS Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum Years of Experience: Ten (10) years working in Design and Construction roles
  • Minimum Years of Management Experience: Two (2) years of Project Management experience
  • Additional Requirements (i.e. % of travel time, etc.):

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish

  • Ability to travel 50-75% of the time

It would be advantageous in this position for you to demonstrate the following capabilities and distinctions:

  • Minimum Years of Experience: Ten (10) years of hospitality industry experience, including lead design roles in new construction as well as renovations
  • Minimum Years of Experience: Four (4) years of experience working with and knowledge of sustainable design, construction, and operations principles
  • Minimum Years of Experience: Four (4) years of experience working with and in-depth knowledge of engineering project design, construction administration and operations
  • Professional registration as an Engineer
  • Fluently speak, write and communicate in Portuguese
  • U.S. Military Veteran candidates
