How will you make an impact?

The Process Engineering Manager leads the process technician and engineering teams in maintaining the equipment in a proactive approach and in reactive manner as needed with priorities on safety, quality, and delivery. Also leads and approves design, procurement, process development, process improvement, process verification and successful implementation into manufacturing for Thermo Fisher Scientific. Supports development of user requirement specifications for future equipment and development of new products (Design for Manufacturability).

What will you do?

  • Focus on 5 priorities; Safety, Quality, Delivery, Productivity/Cost and People.

  • Lead, coach, engage, empower and motivate the process engineering team to prioritize and deliver on site goals and objectives.

  • Lead the team in establishing processes, maintaining processes and process documentation. Including but not limited to equipment optimization, work flow optimization, apply DOE methods, risk assessments, validations, FAT, IQ, and OQ qualifications, write/review/approve detailed technical reports.

  • Work collaboratively with operations leaders to schedule and drive initiatives, balance resource demands, and implement equipment/machine plans to proactively support site production.

  • Work with operations to ensure seamless and successful achievement of daily production goals, process robustness, stability and optimization of equipment and resources.

  • Partner with appropriate site personnel to diagnose production issues, optimize equipment, tooling, and layouts to meet manufacturing, company, and customer needs.

  • Actively engage in customer complaint investigations, CAPA’s, failure investigations and problem solving.

  • Proactively communicate project status, issues & risks to the project team and to various levels of facility business unit and divisional management.

  • Manage projects and activities assigned to the process team, from initiation to closure, through all stages of the business process. Be accountable for assigned project deliverables, including product quality and schedule integrity. Engage the appropriate internal and external resources and stakeholders to deliver projects in a timely and effective manner.

  • Provide leadership, direction and accountability for the Practical Process Improvement (PPI) professional in developing and leading a continuous improvement culture and achievement of savings goals.

  • Participate in the evaluation of safety programs and procedures, the evaluation and management of workplace injuries, and the communication of injury statistics.

  • Organize and facilitate process technician planning, daily stand up meetings, reviews, release planning, product demonstrations, and other project related key milestone commitments.

  • Establish an environment where continuous improvement is fundamental to the culture.

  • Other duties as defined within the scope of the position.

The position reports to the Director of Operations and is responsible for equipment and machine support that ensure manufacturing can meet production targets. The Process Engineering Manager will be responsible for ensuring deliverables are planned and executed, on time and to budget.

How will you get here?


  • B.S. in Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, or a related scientific discipline

  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt desired

  • Proven track record with 5+ years of process engineering leadership experience in biopharma, medical device, food processing or related manufacturing environment

  • 5+ years of experience in project leadership, project management, program strategy, scope & resource definition, possibility/solution work stream generation, knowledge management, and its transition to applications.

  • Ability to work under pressure and coordinate numerous activities with a multi-disciplinary team who need to communicate and cooperate to achieve success.

  • Understanding and application of statistical methods and design of experiments (DOE).

  • Expert knowledge of Lean Manufacturing skills, Single-Piece Flow, Value-Stream mapping, Total Quality Management and JIT Manufacturing techniques.

  • Must have a working knowledge of other business functions (EHS, Financial, Sales, Engineering and Human Resources) in addition to Manufacturing and Quality.

  • Strong problem-solving mindset and analytical skills.

  • Ability to develop high levels of credibility and forge solid and positive professional relationships with subordinates’ peers and upper management.
