Job Summary

TheAvionics Technician Iperform repairs, adjustments, removal and replacement of aircraft electrical and avionics systems components and accessories. All work is performed in accordance with applicable government, manufacturers’ maintenance manuals, company directives and other approved data.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Perform corrosion control cleaning and removal as required utilizing precautions in the SDS for materials utilized to complete these tasks.

  • Use provided test equipment and Ground Support Equipment.

  • Assist with ordering parts, tools, materials and equipment as required.

  • May be required to remove and reinstall cowlings, doors and panels to perform required tasks.

  • Document work accomplished on government and company mandated/provided electronic and/or manual information systems.

  • Responsible for adhering to all applicable Foreign Object Damage (FOD) prevention rules and regulations.

  • Responsible for adhering to the Tool Control Program.

  • Maintain cleanliness of the work center and assigned work area.

  • Monitor and assist the line move crew when operating inside the hangar.

  • Assist in ensuring the safety, security, inventory and preservation of Government owned and Company equipment.

  • May be required to perform Collateral Duty Inspector functions when qualified and certified.

  • May be required to use hazardous materials in performance of assigned duties.

  • Must possess personal tools required to perform the work in the classification.

  • Pursuant to the specific provision of the CBA, at the discretion of management, may be requested to perform the duties of a Lead.

  • Perform aircraft maintenance away from home field within the local area (50 miles) when authorized.

  • Perform other duties as assigned within the job classification.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Must be able to read, speak, write legibly and understand the English language.

  • Possess a thorough knowledge of ground support equipment to include their systems and operation.

  • Must be familiar with aircraft support equipment, tools, drawings, schematics and normal safety requirements.

  • Must have a working knowledge of aircraft and ground safety procedures, applicable maintenance / technical manuals, basic tools, special tools and test equipment.

  • Must be familiar with aircraft support equipment, tools, drawings, schematics and normal safety requirements.

  • Must be able to read, interpret, and apply instructions from schematics, approved data, and maintenance manuals.

  • Must comply with established General and Industrial Safety Rules and Regulations as applicable to the contract, facilities and job assignment.

  • Knowledge of COMNAVAIRFORINST 4790.2 Series and other applicable Navy Instructions, Manufacturer Manuals and Company Instructions.

  • Must have knowledge of aircraft materials used and safety precautions as applicable to usage.

Experience & Education

  • HS Diploma or equivalent

  • Three (3) years documented hands on general experience in aircraft avionics component maintenance and/or aircraft electrical systems maintenance.

  • Satisfactory completion of U.S. Armed Forces ground support maintenance / repair courses preferred.

  • Must be able to meet Government / Company licensing / qualification requirements for the position.

  • Must be familiar with aircraft support equipment, tools, drawings, schematics and normal safety requirements.

  • Must be able to become certified in altimeters, transponder and pitot/static certification requirements.

  • Must have experience in corrosion detection, treatment and prevention.

  • Additional requirements may apply based on government contract.

Physical Requirements/Working Environment

  • Climbing, standing, stooping, bending, pushing, kneeling, stretching, extensive walking and working in uncomfortable positions.

  • Required lifting up to 50 lbs.

  • Special vision abilities required to perform this job are close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust and focus.

  • The diversity of working conditions may range from a standard shop type environment, where there in no physical discomfort, to an environment where inclement weather may subject individual to severe changes in temperature, wind, rain etc.

  • May be required to work in areas where high noise hazards prevail.

  • May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles.

  • May be exposed to electrical shock hazards.

  • Will be required to wear protective clothing and other safety equipment. Will be required to work with hazardous materials.
