Performs maintenance to include inspection, operational test, repair and modification of aircraft electrical / avionics components. Applies technical knowledge to solve problems.
Test, repairs, and modifies components such as receivers, slaving accessories, communications controls and associated control and display devices.
Test, repair, and modify aircraft printed circuit boards, voltage regulators, inverters and other aircraft electronic accessories.
Perform alignment / calibration of repaired components to ensure compliance with manufacturer’s minimum performance specifications.
Completes applicable maintenance forms.
Orders parts and materials.
Identifies and treats corrosion.
May be required to perform collateral duty inspection assignments.
Maintains cleanliness of the work center.
Complies with Foreign Object Damage (FOD), Hazardous Waste, and Tool Control programs.
Complies with all established general and industrial safety rules and regulations as applicable to the contract, facility and job assignment.
Assist as directed to ensure safety, security and preservation of government / company owned equipment.
Operates portable fire fighting equipment.
Performs other related duties as required.
Furnishes own hand tools.
Knowledge & Skills
Possess a working knowledge of aircraft electrical / avionics components. Must be familiar with the operational capabilities and limitations of electronic systems.
Must have a working knowledge of electronic shop and trade practices.
Must have an ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and schematics of avionic components.
Must be able to read, write, understand, and communicate the English language and follow verbal and written instruction.
Demonstrate knowledge and skill in the use of special tools, test equipment and applicable maintenance / technical manuals and publications.
Ability to interact with the customer in a courteous, professional and effective manner.
Ability to operate aircraft ground servicing equipment including EZ-GO vehicles, test equipment, high voltage probes and hand tools.
Experience & Education
Satisfactory completion of U.S. Armed Forces aircraft avionics component repair school or other schools with equivalent curriculum or three (3) years of on the job training and / or experience required.
FCC General Radiotelephone Operator License preferred.
Graduation from high school or GED required.
Must be able to meet any Government / Company licensing / qualification requirements for the position.
Must have a minimum of three (3) years experience in aircraft avionics component maintenance, including avionics corrosion detection, treatment and prevention, performing maintenance on avionics and / or electrical systems, utilizing tools, blue prints, drawings, wiring diagrams, schematics and normal safety requirements.
Physical Requirements/Working Environment
Work is performed in aircraft maintenance shops, hangars, and flight line.
Requires sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods of time.
Requires frequent climbing, bending, stooping, squatting, crawling, crouching, kneeling, lifting, carrying, balancing and reaching above shoulder level, pushing or pulling weight up to 70 pounds.
Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity.
Must have close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Requires hearing to normal range.
Requires shift work and a diversity of working conditions may range from a standard type environment where there may be no physical discomfort, to an environment where inclement weather may subject individual to sever changes in temperature, wind, rain, etc.
May be required to work in areas where high noise hazards prevail.
Will be required to wear protective clothing and other safety equipment.
Will be required to work with hazardous materials.
Exposure to high intensity noise levels, extreme changes in temperature, materials identified on Material Safety Data Sheets, working on or around aircraft and electrical equipment with high voltage potential.
