Job Summary



ThePlane Captainperforms line services in support of flight operations. These services include servicing, cleaning, fueling, defueling, blade wash, moving, securing launching and recovering of aircraft.

Principal Accountabilities

(Typical duties include the following, although specific duties vary by assignment or contract.)

  • Required to perform self-propelled ground equipment during daily routine.

  • May be required to use hazardous materials in performance of assigned duties.

  • Will require use of hand tools which normally include screwdrivers, flashlights and tools necessary to assist with engine rinses and aircraft washes.

  • Must display a good working knowledge of assigned aircraft and servicing requirements.

  • Must display a good working knowledge of inspection requirements and Company instructions.

  • Must complete a Government approved Plane Captain Certification program for type of aircraft.

  • Ensures compliance with Foreign Object Damage (FOD), Hazardous Waste, Egress Familiarization, and Tool Control programs.

  • Ensures compliance with all established general and industrial safety rules and regulations as applicable to the contract, facility and job assignment.

  • Ensures safety, security and preservation of government and company owned equipment.

  • Document work accomplished on government and company electronic and/or manual Information Systems.

  • Must comply with established General and Industrial Safety Rules and Regulations as applicable to the contract, facilities and job assignment.

  • Must possess the personal tools required to perform the work in the classification.

  • Pursuant to the specific provisions in the CBA, at the discretion of management, may be requested to perform the duties of a Lead.

  • Maintains the cleanliness of the work center.

  • When assigned to outlying fields:

  • Maintain a communications link with line supervisory personnel and the on-site crash crew.

  • Provide gravity and hot fueling services at outlying fields when assigned.

  • Performs other related duties within the job classification.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Ability to read, write, understand, and communicate the English language and follow verbal and written instruction.

  • Thorough knowledge of applicable safety and maintenance manuals.

  • Thorough working knowledge of aircraft flight line operations, aircraft handling, servicing, marshaling, common hand tools and normal operational safety requirements of the aircraft.

Experience & Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.

  • Two (2) or more years’ experience aviation experience, preferably in contract, military or commercial, or the equivalent.

  • Valid Driver’s License.

  • Must have basic mechanical aptitude.

  • Must be able to pass comprehensive testing, demonstrate practical knowledge after training and successfully complete examination by the Plane Captain Board to become a qualified Plane Captain within 120 days.

  • Must complete training program and be certified in writing as a plane captain and required to requalify semi-annually.

Physical Requirements/Working Environment

  • Ability to walk and stand on level and/or inclined surfaces for extended periods throughout the day.

  • Ability to climb, bend, stoop, squat, crawl, crouch, kneel, lift, carry, balance and reach above shoulder level, push or pull weight up to fifty (50) pounds.

  • The diversity of work conditions may range from environment where there is little or no physical discomfort, to an environment where inclement weather may subject individual to severe changes of temperature, wind, rain, etc.

  • May be required to work in areas where high noise hazards prevail.

  • May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles.

  • May be exposed to electrical shock hazards.

  • Travel

  • Ability to travel in support of cross-country rescues and detachments of unknown duration.

Ability to work any and all shifts.
