Eaton Corporation User Experience Design Manager in Moon Township, Pennsylvania

Eaton’s Electrical Sector is seeking a User Experience Design Manager for its newly formed Center for Connected Intelligent Solutions team located in Moon Township PA.

Eaton’s Center for Connected Intelligent Solutions accelerates the company’s capabilities through the development of reusable, secure, reliable, integrated, and connected embedded and IoT platforms, providing a foundation for our businesses to more rapidly develop innovative products and services. The Manager, User Experience Design (UXD), will be a member of the Center for Connected Intelligent Solutions and play a key role in this work by leading a team focused on discovery, interaction design, visual design, all firmly grounded by UX principles.

The Manager, User Experience Design, will lead and manage a group with background in UX, Industrial Design, HCI, Visual Design, Content Design, User Research, Design Strategy, and User Assistance (UA) Design. Working directly with members of the Center and with product teams from across Eaton’s Electrical Sector, the Manager will be responsible for driving state of the art practices in UXD throughout our product lines, with direct focus on the continued development of reusable tools and practices to accelerate product development coupled with strong service capabilities. This is a hands-on position and the successful candidate will have responsibilities both as a User Experience Designer and in managing and being responsible for the work performed by the User Experience Design team. In addition, the Manager will work closely with the Design System Platform team who is responsible for creating and maintaining the Digital Design System for SW applications.

In this role you will:

  • Identify, retain, and coach key talent on your team; develop a pipeline of talent through partnerships with leading design-focused organizations and academic institutions.

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of your team, ensuring focus on and execution against top priorities and that the work of all team members is on-time, on-budget, and of the highest quality.

  • Forecast staffing levels and plan staffing to meet needs of Eaton projects and departmental initiatives.

  • Evangelize UXD and Design Thinking within Eaton’s Electrical Sector businesses; establish and sustain partnerships with product teams to ensure that UX is an integral part of product development.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional team members to optimize for customer needs, business constraints, and technological realities.

  • Conduct detailed UI/UX design reviews, document issues, and coordinate issue resolution.

  • Regularly consider industry practices and trends, and collaborate with team, on human centered design; synthesize, present, make recommendations, and integrate into solutions as appropriate.

  • Regularly consider industry practices and trends in design thinking/UXD; present findings, make recommendations, and integrate into solutions as appropriate.

  • Display design flexibility and a deep understanding of design fundamentals, creating work spanning from UX, Industrial Design and IxD.

  • Design, develop, and continually improve processes related to the integration of design with product development.

  • Define rules of engagement for internal UX consulting services for Eaton’s Electrical Sector.

  • Generate multiple concepts that fulfill product requirements, articulate the relative merits of each concept, and make sound recommendations.

  • Create wireframes, sketches, and story boards for user interfaces that intuitively satisfy the needs of a diverse customer base.

  • Conduct usability testing and reviews to validate proposed designs; iterate over the designs based on feedback.

  • Work closely with developers and visual designers to guide the product from inception through delivery.

  • Track and communicate defined KPIs associated with platform use in Eaton’s Electrical Sector products.

Qualifications

Required (Basic) Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in HCI, Design or related field and 4+ years of relevant experience; or a Master’s degree in HCI, Design or related field and 3+ years of related experience, or Bachelor’s degree and 6+ years of related experience.

  • 3+ years of full product development life-cycle experience

  • 1+ years of Project management/leadership experience on UX and/or front-end related projects

  • Must be able to work in the United States without corporate sponsorship now and within the future

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience project management and leadership in a design/development organization.

  • Proven track record leading and managing teams.

  • Experience creating designs for a wide variety of interfaces, from large dashboard displays to mobile devices.

  • Ability to code in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

  • Knowledge of JavaScript frameworks such as Angular and React.

  • Experience in mobile application development.

  • Experience in industrial design.

  • A portfolio with a strong body of work demonstrating compelling information architecture, user experience, and progression from concept through production, across multiple disciplines and interaction media.

  • Experience utilizing flex resources/labor to manage spikes in demand.

  • Experience working directly with business stakeholders.

  • Ability to clearly present design approaches to diverse audiences.

  • Demonstrated ability in creating highest quality user experiences.

  • Incredible communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills backed up via portfolio of work.

  • Significant experience in designing for usability.

  • The ability to grasp complex and sometimes diverse customer needs and distill them into clean, understandable solutions.

  • Proficiency with common UX tools for wireframing, prototyping, research, diagramming, etc.

  • Experience with varying technologies for front-end and mobile development and deployment.
