Verizon Senior Regulatory Tax Analyst in Morristown, New Jersey
What you’ll be doing...
This position is responsible for the preparation of tax returns, conducting research and interpreting statutes and laws, working with accounting and surcharge analysis and other related tasks.
Responsible for handling the wireline compliance process for the Regulatory Team
Work with, understand and prepare Regulatory filings which include those filed with the PUC, State Regulatory Agencies and third party fund administrators for all Verizon owned companies to ensure that they are accurately and timely filed in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, judicial decisions, and rulings
Work on and manage projects that include implementation of cost savings strategies and process improvements to enhance the compliance process
Work with the accounting aspect of the Regulatory function, including assistance with preparation of account reconciliations, review of accrual journal entries and understanding and monitoring the surcharges and expenses related to this tax type
Prepare payments and manage the liabilities and expenses related to the tax returns; work with AP, Treasury and various in-house payment systems
Compile the annual budget and monthly cash forecasts
Assist with analysis related to mergers and acquisitions (including due diligence and computing purchase price adjustments)
Ensuring adherence to all SOX controls
Assist with all Regulatory related audits, as needed
Conduct research as needed, including the tax impact to all Regulatory filings with the addition of any new products and services
Focus on identifying process improvements and streamlining existing procedures
What we’re looking for...
4+ years’ experience in transaction taxes; Regulatory experience (for Utilities) is a plus
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
Experience with tax research, tax accounting, SOX processes, telecommunication taxes, and tax saving strategies is preferred
The ability to prioritize deliverables with competing timelines is required
Candidate must be comfortable in accurately managing deadlines
The position will interface with tax legal, tax technology, tax compliance, tax research and other business groups
The position also requires an understanding of tax law, compliance procedures, accrual methodology, and tax initiatives
Must have solid oral, written and analytical skills
Should possess the ability to work equally well both independently and while working within a team
Advanced computer skills are required (ie: PowerQuery)
Project management skills are required
Familiarity with the data requirements needed for the preparation and filing of tax returns (ie: knowledge of billing systems, etc.)
A knowledge of various tax systems, such as CCH, RIA, and Vertex
Previous exposure to PeopleSoft or SAP (or other major General Ledger Suite Software) is beneficial
Working knowledge of artificial intelligence (ie: “BOTS”) technical skills are a plus
Prior experience handling audits and replying to State and Local Auditor IDR’s is a plus
CPA or MS in Taxation is desirable
