Occidental Petroleum Sr Field Optimization Engineer in Muscat, Oman

The Senior Optimization Engineer SFOE will provide not only modeling expertise but also integration with management, RMT, surveillance and operation teams.

The SFOE will be working alongside Oxy Oman’s Field Optimization Project leader(s) and the OFO Project Manager and closely with Data Management, IT, Worldwide Engineering, Technical Services Groups. This person will mature Oxy Oman’s field optimization closed loop management process. The technology’s initial focus is on integrated optimization of steamflooding projects in Oman aiming for operational improvement as frequently as necessary and data updates allows. The SFOE will liaise with other Oxy Field of the Future team members to insure synchronous operations and tangible progress

The Senior Optimization Engineer responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Building Oxy Field Optimizer model(s) using OFO tool and its associated packages. Including data QAQC, History matching, Running forecast and associated sensitivities and deliver a list of recommendations for RMTs to optimize their barrel chasing activities.

  • Liaise with Production Engineers for recommendation implementations.

  • Liaise with data management to insure all pertinent well performance data (continuous focus) is accessible to the OFO process and tools in a timely manner.

  • Support multiple integrated reservoir management (RMT teams) in thoroughly testing of and further development of the Oxy Field Optimizer tool and process.

  • Coordinate structured feedback from testing groups to the Data science and IT software development team(s) in Oman and Houston and insure that the field optimization process becomes and stays cutting edge and state of the art

  • Support training and tool usage documentation using Oxy organizational resources, and conduct training sessions.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Masters in Computer Science.

  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in the energy industry (Preferably as Petroleum Engineer).

  • Preferably 5 years in Project Management roles with track record of demonstrated success

  • High proficiency in EOR/IOR Reservoir Surveillance Operating Practices and/or in Well/Facility Operations and Automation.
