American Water Install Helper Technician in Naperville, Illinois

Primary Role

The Install Helper will work closely with the Lead Installer to complete a variety of tasks associated with quality install of residential HVAC equipment. The Install Helper will receive routed work from dispatch, report to assigned job site on time and perform work to the company's expectations. All NHS installers will promote warranty products to Pivotal customers. This role requires the use of a valid driver's license to drive a company vehicle and must be refrigerant certified. This individual will always be responsible to work and drive safely.

Key Accountabilities

Functional Expertise:

  • Continuously provide the customer with the highest levels of customer service.

  • Able to assist lead installer with installation of furnaces, condensers and thermostats. This includes high and low voltage wiring.

  • Thoroughly understands and complies with the inventory policies and procedures of NHS.

  • Must be able to assist with install of sheet metal duct systems, connect gas lines, cut and thread pipe, install copper line to AC units, including soldiering and brazing.

  • Business Acumen:*

  • Use good time management to make effective use of travel.

  • Must be able to cycle count inventory upon procurement's request.

  • Demonstrates attention to detail involving his/her payroll to minimize any reclass data entries at the end of the month.

  • Demonstrates a high level of technical competence.

  • Ability to utilize a variety of analytical techniques to solve problems.

  • Complies to all corporate and department policies and procedures.

  • Develops strong credibility with co-workers and department leadership.

  • Uses good people skills and judgment with customers to provide them with the highest level of customer service.

  • Work with the PHS prevention and safety team to keep safety our #1 priority by submitting good catches from the field.

  • Driving Results:*

  • Maintain expected productivity, quality and safety metrics as outflined by the NHS Field Operations Department

  • Must show willingness to continue to learn and take additional training to develop proficiency in the field i.e. in-house, manufacturer's, videos or related articles.

Knowledge/Skills

  • EPA Certification Type 1 and 2 or universal.

Experience/Education

  • High school, GED, Vocational training in HVAC, HVAC Certification. Must continue education of HVAC through classes when the company requests attendance.

  • 1 year minimum experience.

Work Environment

  • Subject to climbing, extreme hot or cold (outdoors), heavy lifting, loud noise

  • Use of ladders to get to equipment, crawling to look for registers, going into crawl spaces and attics to locate access furnace.

  • Safety awareness, overhead hazards, equipment operations, wearing PPE required.

  • Must be able to reach, bend, extend and lift 50-60 lbs.

  • Must not be afraid of heights.
