Position: Senior DevOps Engineer, Product Engineering
Location: Nashua, NH
Reports to: Senior Manager, Software Development
This individual will be a member of the Engineering organization at Oracle supporting mission critical systems. They will function as a development resource but will also assist in troubleshooting operational issues as-needed. Day-to-day activities will range from participating in Agile Scrum/KANBAN, application design, troubleshooting and solution development. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated and possess a wide range of skills and experience, from strong understanding of the networking stack to building highly fault-tolerant services. As an engineer, this individual should have the ability to understand complex problems and strike a good balance between business goals and technical implementations.
Major Duties :
Designs, develops and maintains infrastructure and backend applications
Provides experience in web application technologies and middleware solutions
Work collaboratively with product team to build, deploy and operate our systems
Help automate and streamline our operations and processes
Build and maintain tools for deployment, monitoring and operations in allenvironments
Troubleshoot and resolve issues in our dev, test and production environments
Work closely with software development resources as well as IT/network operations and the users of our solutions
Review the current architectural landscape and make appropriate recommendations
Provide technical guidance and educate team members and coworkers on development and operations
Manage CI and CD tools within team and collaborate within larger automation organization
Demonstrated ability to deliver the items listed in the major duties section
At least 5 years of operations engineering experience in SaaS Cloud or Hybrid Cloud Environments
At least 3 years of experience with Linux operating systems, such as Ubuntu and FreeBSD
Experience with containers and supporting orchestration systems. Docker, Kubernetes
Experience with configuration management systems, such as Chef, Ansible
Experience with cloud orchestration tools, such as Terraform
Expertise with a multiple programming language such as Go, C, perl and python.
General knowledge of the following categories of network systems: Multiprocessing, Threading, Distributed systems, Load Balancing and High Availability
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated ability to work effectively across organizational boundaries and within groups
Should be a flexible, resourceful, team player that is able to thrive in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment
Creative thinking and critical analysis are essential
Experience with DNS
Experience implementing cloud solutions
Experience with Jenkins, Team City, ODO, Bitbucket
Experience with Database as a Service
Knowledge of Internet protocols and standards including DNS, REST, TLS and HTTP
Detailed Description and Job Requirements
Solve complex problems related to infrastructure cloud services and build automation to prevent problem recurrence. Design, write, and deploy software to improve the availability, scalability, and efficiency of Oracle products and services. Design and develop designs, architectures, standards, and methods for large-scale distributed systems. Facilitate service capacity planning and demand forecasting, software performance analysis, and system tuning.
Work with Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team on the shared full stack ownership of a collection of services and/or technology areas. Understand the end-to-end configuration, technical dependencies, and overall behavioral characteristics of production services. Responsible for the design and delivery of the mission critical stack, with focus on security, resiliency, scale, and performance. Authority for end-to-end performance and operability. Partner with development teams in defining and implementing improvements in service architecture. Articulate technical characteristics of services and technology areas and guide Development Teams to engineer and add premier capabilities to the Oracle Cloud service portfolio. Understand and communicate the scale, capacity, security, performance attributes, and requirements of the service and technology stack. Demonstrate clear understanding of automation and orchestration principles. Act as ultimate escalation point for complex or critical issues that have not yet been documented as Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Utilize a deep understanding of service topology and their dependencies required to troubleshoot issues and define mitigations. Understand and explain the affect of product architecture decisions on distributed systems. Professional curiosity and a desire to a develop deep understanding of services and technologies.
A BS or MS in Computer Science, or equivalent. Identifies solutions to knowledge of server hardware and software configuration, networking, standard internet services, scripting languages, cloud computing patterns, technology security and compliance. Experience running large scale customer facing web services. Identifies solutions to understanding of load balancing technologies and experience with development in programming languages, databases and big data stores, and container technologies. Work involves defining and documenting technical architecture of complex and highly scalable products. A minimum of 5 years experience of running large scale customer facing web services.
