What you’ll be doing...

Verizon Innovative Learning, the education initiative of the Verizon Foundation, brings technology and hands-on learning opportunities to middle and high school students in under-resourced schools and communities. We not only fund the programs, but we also create and administer them in partnership with leading nonprofits. We diligently measure the impact of our work and refine our programs to ensure we’re making a difference. We’ve reached more than 1 million students so far – and our goal is to reach 5 million more by 2023.

The Verizon Innovative Learning Program Manager will be responsible for an extensive set of programs that focus on transforming teaching and learning, especially in under-resourced communities. Candidate will create, implement, and manage dynamic and innovative programs that leverage Verizon's solutions where possible to help academic entities including K-12 schools adopt technologies that increase student interest, engagement and academic achievement. The position requires in-depth knowledge of the education space including curriculum development, best practices for teacher training, effective and empathetic implementation of initiatives in districts and schools, how best to support under-resourced students, ELL and at-risk learners, products and services currently being used to support student learning and emerging technologies that show the greatest promise for application in the future.

The program manager is accountable for monitoring key trends in the education field, identifying partners, and advancing new and innovative uses of Verizon's technology in philanthropy. The candidate may serve as an external presence and spokesperson at activities advancing Verizon's education philanthropy. The individual selected for this position must have experience leading a team, and exceptional program and project management skills especially in managing large-scale programs.

  • Design, implement, and lead programs that leverage Verizon’s technology with minimal guidance and within time and budget constraints.

  • Conduct research to gain insights into market trends and concept.

  • Create new innovative initiatives and processes that support program goals.

  • Pilot emerging technologies that enhance teaching and learning and overall school effectiveness.

  • Conduct ongoing evaluation of partners and programs, including partner site visits.

  • Partner with the research team to measure the effectiveness and societal impact of the programs developed; communicate impact through quantitative and qualitative data, as well as stories.

  • Prepare PowerPoint presentations and other communication materials for internal and external project meetings; Present program overview, findings, results on a frequent basis to multiple stakeholders.

  • Adhere to PMO standards, methodologies and procedures.

  • Effectively manage multi-million dollar budget.

  • Provide subject matter expertise as a member of various cross-functional teams including Marketing, PR, Employee Engagement, PMO, Finance, and Public Policy.

  • Participate in external and internal panels and events to share results of programs.

What we’re looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.

  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.

  • Six or more years of experience in program management/project management.

  • Two or more years of experience in K-12 education supporting EdTech initiatives.

  • Willingness to travel 25% of the time.

  • Experience managing a team.

Even better if you have:

  • Master's Degree.

  • 6+ years of experience in K-12 education.

  • Curriculum development experience.

  • Strong skills in creative and strategic analysis with the ability to think out of the box.

  • Ability to quickly and successfully execute on philanthropic programs and measure success.

  • Capability to interact and work with diverse constituencies from philanthropic leaders, academics, grantees, policy makers, business executives, members of the media and other social sector leaders.

  • Ability to prioritize, problem solve and multitask effectively.

  • Superior communication and relationship management skills including experience in presenting to and communicating with Senior Executives.
