Principal Data Engineer - MOAT
We help brands and media companies develop smart, privacy-friendly models for advertising. Our software prevents ad fraud, lets advertisers avoid fake news and other undesirable websites, lets legitimate websites showcase the quality of their advertising inventory and ultimately run fewer, faster ads. Our services are used by The New York Times, Condé Nast, Kellogg's, P&G, Spotify, and hundreds of other major platforms and advertisers.
About the Opportunity:
You will be on the Moat Pre-Impression team, which builds various products meant to reduce fraud and latency in online advertisements.
Moat was a recent Oracle acquisition, so you'll be in a startup-like environment where we iterate quickly and use modern tools.
You will help build data pipelines that process multiple terabytes of logs a day. This data will be used in making realtime programmatic ad decisions in less than <10ms. Your work will help advertisers avoid bots, fake news and distasteful websites.
You'll build predictive models with our data and you'll be part data scientist, part engineer.
You will face challenging problems about scale, statistics, infrastructure reliability, latency and more.
You'll work with a smart team of engineers who came from Stanford, MIT, Princeton, Columbia and other top schools.
3-5 years of fulltime experience.
You have a strong Computer Science background, either in college or self-taught.
You've used Spark, Hadoop or some other big data processing framework.
You're comfortable writing backend code and querying SQL databases.
You're comfortable mentoring junior engineers, following best practices, performing code reviews and architecting resilient infrastructure.
You're familiar with many AWS services like EC2, S3, ECS, RDS and SQL.
Bonus: You have experience with Docker, PostgreSQL, Terraform, Python.
Extra bonus points: you've worked an a big ETL pipeline before.
Detailed Description and Job Requirements
Design, develop, troubleshoot and debug software programs for databases, applications, tools, networks etc.
As a member of the software engineering division, you will take an active role in the definition and evolution of standard practices and procedures. You will be responsible for defining and developing software for tasks associated with the developing, designing and debugging of software applications or operating systems.
Work is non-routine and very complex, involving the application of advanced technical/business skills in area of specialization. Leading contributor individually and as a team member, providing direction and mentoring to others. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 7 years of software engineering or related experience.
