Key Account Manager – Microbiology Division (MBD)

Driven by our goal oriented team of service experts, the Microbiology Division (MBD) is a trusted supplier of a broad range of high quality media and diagnostic products used in clinical, , industrial, research, and academic laboratories. For over 30 years, the group consisting of over 2,000 employees has been highly dedicated to microbiology and provided superior product performance and expert, responsive customer support to laboratories nationwide.


This position will be remotely near a major airport in the northeast part of the US, such as Washington DC, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, New York City or Boston.

How will you make an impact?

Assists in the development of Account Managers and Senior Automation Specialists in selling and servicing the Microbiology Clinical portfolio. Supports the Regional Business Manager, in driving growth, profitability and predictability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Creates, develops and recommends goals, objectives and policies to ensure the most effective operation of sales activities within targeted accounts.

  • Develops and manages processes for: creating sales strategies and tactical plans, sales assumptions, projections, and sales goals

  • Facilitates the management of key business and customer relationships and negotiates potential business opportunities for the company which are consistent with its long-term objectives.

  • Provides leadership and direction that enables the northeast region to execute the tactical sales plan.

  • Directs, manages and coaches the activities of sales teams within key accounts.

  • Maintains regular contacts with key Customer and Distributor accounts, continuously builds knowledge of industry trends, developments and all competitive activities.

  • Provides periodic reports on sales activities and provide sales forecasts as directed.

  • In addition, other duties may be assigned as the need arises.

How will you get there?


  • Bachelors Degree in business, marketing or science required.


  • 8 – 10 years sales/sales management experience within the clinical diagnostic market.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Strong track record of success in capital / consumable business model

  • Proven leadership skills, with financial and business acumen

  • Effective communication and impactful presentation skills

  • Proficiency in Windows 7 + and Microsoft Office Suite, CRM platforms, and other commonly used software

  • Strong track record of building relationships internally and using company resources to achieve objectives

  • Able to make decisions independently, and to benefit the company

  • High level of attention to detail

  • High level of intensity, enthusiasm, and professionalism

  • Strong passion for the responsibility of the position and the contribution to the overall business

  • Ability to travel up to 75%
