AT&T Technical Writer (UX Writer) in New York, New York


As a Technical/UX Writer, you'll be part of our software engineering department, and will work closely with our Software Engineering, User Experience, and Product Management teams to produce accurate documentation for end users and developers building on the Xandr platform.

The kinds of documentation you'll be expected to write include:

• Screen text and error messages for our UIs

• Feature and process overviews

• How-tos

• Tutorials

• Conceptual deep-dives

• Developer documents for our Web APIs and Mobile SDK

As a Technical/UX writer on the Docs team, you'll:

• Compose user interface texts and error messages for better product usability

• Research, plan, and write documentation for end-user (UI) and developer (API/SDK) audiences

• Collaborate across Product, Engineering, User Experience, and Services to gather information and define documentation requirements

• Follow existing style guides without losing sight of the big picture and understandability

• Test documentation against the product to ensure completion and accuracy.


• Excellent writing skills: clarity, accuracy, and efficiency

• Excellent oral communication and presentation skills

• Ability to learn complex, technical products

• Experience with user-focused writing

• Experience documenting for both end-user (UI) and developer (API/SDK) audiences

• Familiar with current documentation best practices such as structured authoring, single-sourcing, and minimalism

• Experience working with contextual help systems

• Familiarity with wiki-, XML-, and plaintext-based authoring tools (for example, Confluence, DITA, Markdown)

• Skilled at balancing multiple projects while maintaining a high level of attention to detail

• Experience with HTML and CSS

• Work productively with a geographically distributed team

Nice to Haves:

• Familiarity with user experience research principles

• Familiarity with online advertising and/or the advertising technology industry

• Ability to read code and create code samples in JavaScript, Java, or another language

• Knowledge of source code revision control systems such as Bitbucket and GitHub
