Reporting directly to the Head of RMF, the Vice President RMF is expected to be client and market focused, taking calculated lending risk and making effective business decisions within the context of the strategic business plan as set forth by the Head of RMF.

The role is expected to work closely with various internal constituencies to attain and retain customer business by providing clients with warehouse lending and securitization solutions. The role is expected to work closely with trading and sales partners to provide seamless client coverage.

The Vice President RMF is responsible for promoting and supporting the Bank's risk culture including ensuring employees understand their accountabilities for risk-taking activities, promoting an environment of open communication and effective challenge, and establishing the "tone from the top" through leading by example. The Vice President RMF is accountable for complying with the Bank's Risk Appetite framework and ensuring risk-taking activities remain within agreed limits, bank corporate lending policies and comply with all regulatory requirements.

The Vice President RMF is responsible for identifying and understanding the risks being taken, ensuring that those risks are measured or assessed properly, and are being monitored and reported appropriately to both internal and external stakeholders as necessary. In addition, the Vice President RMF is responsible for working with control groups and helping ensure that effective systems, documented processes, and robust controls are in place for effective risk management. Risk categories can include market, credit, operational, regulatory, and reputational risks.

Business Strategy, Initiative Execution, New Product Development

  • Business strategy is currently focused on growing BMO's mortgage warehouse lending business, providing repurchase financing to mid- to large-cap non-bank residential mortgage clients that originate and/or acquire various types of residential mortgage loans. Over time, the mandate will be expanded to include non-agency securitization structuring and execution services.

  • The role will be responsible for transaction management, client development, prospecting and relationship building.

  • Partner internally to ensure successful transaction execution and post-closing administration.

  • Respond to inquiries from clients, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community in a professional manner and determine acceptable solutions.

Market knowledge

  • Possess and maintain strong market knowledge to provide comprehensive service to clients, develop new solutions, and construct compelling recommendations.

  • Read, analyze and interpret common financial reports, and legal documents to better serve client needs.

  • Use analytical skills in connection with mortgage lending programs and broader securitization activity.

Financial Analysis

  • Use abilities in financial analysis to communicate effectively and succinctly with clients.

  • Develop marketing ideas and help initiate transactions through appropriate presentation of financial data.

Managerial Leadership

  • Participates in the recruitment and training of new FTEs at junior levels and monitors their progress.

  • Maintains a future-oriented focus, possesses organizational, industry, and competitive knowledge and effects business results through innovative practices.

  • Provides leadership to ensure successful transactions are undertaken in an efficient manner.

  • Effectively influences and gains support of other areas of the firm in delivering solutions to clients.

  • Effectively communicates and partners with others.

Knowledge

  • At least 7 years of experience at a financial institution in Capital Markets with emphasis on investment and corporate banking.

  • Strong technical knowledge of repurchase lending facilities, with a special emphasis on financing structures related to various types of residential mortgage loans.

  • Must successfully complete the external regulatory exams, licenses required to be considered a registered member and senior officer of the firm.

  • Advanced current knowledge of U.S. mortgage business, regulations, and securities products including various markets.

  • Knowledge of credit issues and industry trends in the U.S. residential mortgage finance sector.

Skills

  • Advanced level of relationship management and interpersonal skills and the ability to strategically and ethically leverage client relationships.

  • Excellent ability to advocate persuasively and negotiate with influence when conducting business with peers and clients.

  • Exceptional analytical skills including financial, economic, and business analysis and the ability to apply these concepts to the daily functions of the business.

  • Very results oriented and strong capability of taking calculated risks and adapting to situations quickly.

  • Strong ability to think conceptually and to achieve both short and long term business results.

  • Highly developed written and oral communication.

  • Strong proficiency in computer applications including Microsoft Office products, financial applications, and the Internet.

  • Strong collaboration & team skills; with a focus on cross-group collaboration.
