As a member of the Global Construction and Engineering Business Unit at Oracle, you will be part of a globally regionalised team supporting our market leading collaboration platform used worldwide throughout the construction industry.

Duties vary with every day being different, from responding to alerts and incidents to maintain availability of our cloud hosted SaaS applications, to diving into, analysing and solving complex technical issues. You will come up with solutions which are repeatable and can be automated, enabling you and your peers to rapidly deploy and provision new services and continue to improve the critical service we provide to both internal and externally facing customers.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Trouble-shooting and pro-actively managing highly technical system issues.

  • Installation, configuration and maintenance of hardware and software.

  • Operating and contributing to automation and management systems:

o Puppet

o Ansible

o Capistrano

o Jenkins

  • Operate and provision into cloud environments:

o Oracle cloud, OCI, OCI-C

o AWS

  • Ensure that all operational and administration activities are carried out with a focus on security and operational efficiency.

  • Operate and contribute to our monitoring and alerting stacks:

o Nagios

o Prometheus

o Metrics

o Logfile parsing and analysis

  • Work proactively with remote data centre providers around the world.

  • Compile reports to be used for operational and management purposes.

  • Pro-actively contribute and support the team, your regional peers and Oracle.

  • Provide follow the sun on-call support for our global platforms.

  • Collaborate with product teams, leading by example and ultimately raising the bar.

  • Support routine compliance checks e.g. DR (Disaster Recovery) testing, auditing for ISO compliance.

  • Carry out security and internal compliance remediation work to

Key requirements and essential experience:

  • 5 years practical experience in a similar role with essential experience of

o OS - Linux and Windows Server

o Database - MS SQL Server and PostgresSQL

o Web Server – Apache and IIS

o Enterprise virtualisation platforms – VMware or similar

o Networking – TCP/IP stack, DNS and Linux based firewalls, routers and IPsec VPN’s

  • Scripting and automation methods and techniques

  • Infrastructure-as-code e.g. Terraform or CloudFormation

  • Exposure to Cisco switches and the IOS operating system.

  • Good analytical skills for troubleshooting problems, especially from remote locations.

  • System and Network security practises and disciplines need to be demonstrated.

  • Willingness to proactively engage in continuous process improvement.

  • Ability to listen and communicate clearly with different areas of the business

  • Be a self-starter with the capability to work autonomously

  • Must be able to travel worldwide without country restriction when required

Desirable experience:

  • Oracle Cloud, AWS and/or Azure cloud hosting platforms.

  • Datacentre migrations.

  • Exposure to Oracle Database.

  • Exposure to web application frameworks – Classic ASP, ASP.NET or Django.

  • Understanding of the SRE (Site Reliability Engineering) model.

  • Security clearance

Detailed Description and Job Requirements

Define, design, and implement network communications and solutions within a fast-paced, leading edge database/applications company.

Perform performance trend analysis and manage the server/network capacity. Propose client configuration and implement technical solutions to enhance and/or troubleshoot the system. Work with others to define, coordinate vendor purchase needs. Responsible for support documentation as well.

Job duties are varied and complex utilizing independent judgment. May have project lead role. 5 years of related experience in a medium to large network distributed and computing environment. BS in Computer Science or related field.
