Kaiser Permanente Architecture Engineer in Oakland, California

Leads the Clinical Information System (CIS) architectural engineering efforts to define future architecture views and the migration plan to realize them. The definition of future views includes mapping business strategies to technology strategies, mapping business needs to the IT infrastructure, and setting architectural standards. The migration plan includes integrating IT expenditures to meet technology milestones and specifying core competencies (skills) timelines.

Essential Functions:

  • Develops and maintains the blueprint of the IT architecture to meet CIS business needs for the next 5 to 10 years as stated in the CIS Strategy-Based Master Plan.

  • Design solution options to meet business requirements.

  • Develops the IT architectural migration plan to ensure all IT expenditures throughout KPNCR converge to supporting the path specified in the blueprint.

  • Establishes and maintains a communication framework to ensure executive management can make informed decisions on IT investment options.

  • Develops, maintains, and enforces architectural standards to ensure convergence to the architectural plan.

  • Develops best practice strategies to ensure near-term changes are aligned with long-term IT objectives.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience, usually ten (10) + years, in IS as a key leadership position including experience with large organization.

  • Significant experience as a Systems Architect, large IS project and high transaction volume database experience; top-notch experience with client/server environments, experience with introducing client/server to a host-centric environment preferred.

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in engineering or related technical area.

  • Master's degree preferred.

  • Extensive knowledge and technical depth in software applications development, systems software, computer networking, or computer hardware.

  • Strong verbal and written communications skill required.

  • Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.

  • Systems Achitecture skills with the following, EMC Storage, Microsoft Systems and Active Directory, System Clustering, SSL Certs, Firewalls, SAN switches, Load Balancer, Disaster Recovery, Kace System Management, Powershell scripting, VMware Enterpise Plus, Data Center migration and planning, System monitoring, SAS 9.4 Grid, Solaris, Redhat, Apache, R-Studio, shell scripting, Windows client provisioning and software packaging, Puppet Labs.

  • Some on-call work will be rotated.
