The Water Business Unit of AECOM is actively seeking a Senior Project Manager for immediate employment in the Oakland, California office. The successful candidate will support the Water Resources Engineering team to complete a variety of projects that involve water and dam design. The ideal candidate will have a strong background and interest in civil engineering for the planning, investigation, analysis, design, and construction of dams and related facilities such as spillways, outlet works, and hydroelectric facilities. The candidate will possess advanced knowledge of civil, structural, geotechnical, and hydraulic engineering principles and practices in broad areas of assignments and related fields, with specific emphasis in large civil infrastructure related to dams. The candidate must have familiarity with applicable engineering principles and methods including understanding and application of advanced analysis techniques related to static and dynamic stability of various types of dam structures. The candidate must be capable of working and communicating effectively with project teams and clients, and must be willing to learn from peers and supervisors. Work products are anticipated to include written reports, letters, technical memoranda, analysis outputs, calculation packages, drawings, specifications, and other items as appropriate for the project. Projects may include work on various types of dams, hydropower and flood management projects, spillways, outlet works, and other heavy civil and earthen structures. Solid experience with field investigation and design of water conveyance and storage facilities, dams, and hydropower projects will be essential.
The primary responsibilities for this role are expected to include:
Plan, direct, and supervise operations included in a large, complex project or several moderately sized projects with greater risk and complexity and significant financial impact. Resolve complex issues. Manage projects on a local basis. Work with clients to provide long term solutions
Lead and direct preliminary and detailed civil/structural/geotechnical/hydraulic analysis for dams, hydraulic structures, and appurtenant facilities including intake structures, outlet conduits, energy dissipation structures, and related equipment for operation of dams and reservoirs
Take a lead role in project management and administration including tracking and managing budget, schedule, and quality of deliverables; writing reports, gathering information, drafting proposals, drafting correspondence, and completing progress reports
Play a role in business development, client relationships, strategic pursuits, and preparation of proposals, budgets and scopes of work
Participate on multidisciplinary teams on civil, structural, and geotechnical engineering projects in an office environment as well as in a virtual team environment
Acts as primary point of contact with client; takes full responsibility for project delivery. May be responsible for Project teams that include 10 or more members often representing multiple business lines, working in remote locations and including subcontractors
Serve as lead engineer on small- to mid-sized projects and work on several projects concurrently. Take the lead in evaluation of alternatives and resolution of key technical questions
Lead and prepare studies, design criteria, design reports, plans and specifications, and quality assurance reviews of related designs and construction plans, and support of construction
Organize, draft and coordinate production of various reports to ensure technical consistency and inclusion of appropriate documentation
Organize, draft and coordinate production of engineering drawings and specifications to ensure technical accuracy
Oversee and direct observation of construction to verify compliance with specifications; review and approve submittals; conduct field site visits; resolve technical issues and design changes; review progress versus schedule
Oversee and direct technical staff in field activities including site inspections, shop inspections, monitoring and other fieldwork; instill culture of safety in all employees by promoting and following company health and safety guidelines and policies
Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering
8+ years of project management and engineering experience as a demonstrated leader in the design and implementation of large water resources infrastructure projects including dams. Qualified applicants will have experience managing projects with $1M $5M contract value
Registered PE/ PEng with ability to obtain California Registration within 18 months
Experience in client service and business development
Strong organizational skills, multitasking ability, and excellent computer skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, report preparation, and the ability to work with engineering staff at all levels
Ability to travel occasionally, generally within the Western US. Valid drivers license required
Heavy civil construction field experience including specific experience with dams or hydroelectric related projects
California registered Geotechnical Engineer
Master's Degree with emphasis in Geotechnical, Structural, or Hydraulic Engineering
Strong knowledge and working relationship with Federal and/ or State dam safety regulators In California and the Western US
15+ years experience
Ability to prepare complete, concise and organized engineering calculations and analyses
Relevant experience with the current state-of-the-practice for remedial measures for existing dams, including anchor technology, grouting, cutoff walls, ground improvement, roller compacted concrete, spillway enlargement, and other similar techniques
Relevant geotechnical and/or structural experience working in heavy construction with meaningful exposure to the following: instrumentation, micropile/rock anchor Installation, drilled shafts, and piling, construction water diversion/management, and coffer dam construction
Detail oriented, with experience in preparing design calculations and drawings, and accustomed to producing high quality work
