Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Adjust/co-adjust complex property claims.

  • Consult on issues of coverage and damages.

  • Evaluate and investigating fraud and arson cases; directing/ managing investigations with experts.

  • Testify as to findings in court as appropriate.

  • Coordinate and supervise legal counsel for litigation management.

  • Investigate facts of loss and coverage; evaluate and negotiate settlement of claim.

  • Develop scope of building losses; write repair estimates and directing scope of loss ; secure agreed prices with contractors; evaluating losses and assess the types of experts needed.

  • Retain and manage experts. Investigate, recognize and develop subrogation and salvage recovery potential.

  • Conduct field office training sessions as requested.

  • Participate as storm team member to handle large storm/catastrophe loses.

  • Interact with agents and brokers on a regional basis for customer service.

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Requires extended periods (1 or more weeks) of travel as needed. Requires extensive travel 33 to 50% of time.

  • This position requires the individual to access and inspect all areas of a building or structure which is physically demanding requiring the ability to carry, set up and climb a ladder weighing approximately 38 to 49 pounds with a safety weight rating of up to 300 pounds (safety weight rating is the amount of weight the ladder can safely carry and includes weight of the individual and up to 16 pounds of standard equipment), walk on roofs, and enter tight spaces (such as attic staircases and entries, crawl spaces, etc.).

  • While specific territory or day-to-day responsibilities may not require an individual to climb a ladder, the incumbent must be capable of safely climbing a ladder when deploying to a catastrophe which is a requirement of the position.

Job Specific & Technical Skills & Competencies:

  • Advanced communication skills are required to understand, interpret and convey highly technical information to others.

  • Expert/mastery knowledge or skill level in claims.

  • Basic working knowledge/ skill level in accounting, administrative support, products, financial analysis, litigation, mathematics/statistics, and Excel, Word, PowerPoint and business lines products.

  • Experience in adjusting complex business interruption losses, and proficiency in commercial property coverage evaluation is also needed.

  • Demonstrate creative problem solving and analytical skills.

  • Sense of urgency and ability to prioritize.

  • Candidate must be extremely organized and possess strong investigative skills.

  • Ability to plan and coordinate with other organizational units and resources.

Job Summary:

Under general supervision this job is responsible for handling and providing expertise in adjusting large, complex business property claims in excess of $100,000, including business interruption losses. Adjusting/co-adjusting large business insurance property claims while applying technical expertise and experience. This job does not manage others.

Education, Work Experience & Knowledge:

Bachelors degree or equivalent experience preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Operates standard office equipment.

  • Requires lifting items in excess of 38 49 pounds.

  • Requires extended periods of sitting.

  • Requires extended periods of driving.

  • Exposure to noise, dirt, or odors.

  • Duties also include exertion in transporting materials or equipment, lifting, moving, or carrying heavy materials off and on throughout the day.

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Degree or GED required with a minimum of 3 years claim handling experience. Experience utilizing computer technology; such as Microsoft Office, e-mail, Web-enabled applications, and database software. Ability to accurately compute a variety of numerical calculations required. Licensing Required: In order to perform the essential job functions of this job, acquisition and maintenance of Insurance License(s) may be required to comply with provincial and Travelers requirements. Valid driver's license may be required. Must secure and maintain company credit card if required.
