Job Summary

TheMorale, Welfare & Recreation (MWR) Managerplans, organizes, directs, and evaluates MWR programs and activities at a designated location for assigned program. Manages and coordinates activities required to operate Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) facilities, fields and programs to include, but are not limited to: Clubs, Entertainment, Fitness, Community Recreation Services, Bowling Center, Hobby Shop, Pools and Small Boat Marina, and etc.

Principal Accountabilities

(Typical duties include the following, although specific duties vary by assignment or contract.)

  • Plan, organize, manage, and direct a variety of recreational programs in accordance w/ AR 215-1

  • Develop, coordinate and implement games, contests, activities, supply and prize ordering.

  • Prepare and submit after action reports for each event, program or activity.

  • Reports to Community Activities Director, works closely with Operational Managers, on matters pertaining to planning, programming, budgeting, tracking, and execution of Category A, B and C MWR programs

  • Review annual activities planning calendar and Business Plans for designated MWR facilities and programs. Oversee scheduling and coordination of facilities and equipment for general usage.

  • Ensures the proprietary of resource expenditures, accurate inventories, and controls for NAF and APF property and merchandise and is responsible for an overall sound economic operation of assigned activities through regular analysis of financial assets and liabilities.

  • Implement procedures to ensure a secure and safe operation of assigned facility. Ensure adherence to all safety and facility procedures IAW site management direction.

  • Identify areas of concern, prepare options to solve problem, and present recommended solution(s) to management.

  • Maintain facility-specific budgets and administrative records, and submit program status reports as required.

  • Interface with designated government representatives and other contractor elements to ensure smooth operations and compliance with government directives, standards, and needs.

  • Supervise, train, and evaluate staff. Communicate job expectations; plan, monitor, and review job contributions.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Knowledge of recreation programs, safety precautions, first-aid procedures, individual and team sports, community interests and needs.

  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with employees and management of all levels (to include multi-national staff, superiors, and ranking military officers).

  • Proficient in Word, Excel, and Outlook applications.

  • Strong organizational and planning skills so that workflow is managed efficiently and accurately.

  • Ability to handle confidential company and employee information with complete discretion.

  • Good oral and written communication skills, with the ability to prepare reports and make presentations.

  • Able and willing to work periods of long hours to meet mission requirements

  • Military experience in a contingency environment and knowledge and experience working with government contracts preferred.

Experience, Education, and Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; Associates degree preferred.

  • Five (5) years of specialized experience planning, organizing, coordinating, or evaluating industrial, outdoor, institutional, or other recreational programs.

  • Two (2) years’ experience supervising the operation and maintenance of a military installation morale, welfare and recreation program or comparable civilian program preferred.

  • Must possess passport book (not passport card) with at least 12 months of remaining validity and with at least 4 blank visa/stamp pages remaining

  • Must possess current U.S. driver’s license with at least 6 months of remaining validity

Physical Requirements/Working Environment

  • Must be able to lift 25lbs continuously, 50lbs intermittently

  • Living and working conditions at the assignment location could be remote and uncomfortable.

  • Long hours, exposure to weather and hazardous conditions.

  • Personnel should be aware of moving on short notice and under adverse conditions.
