Position Summary:

Silgan Containers is seeking a talented Manufacturing Engineer with experience in the metal end industry. As a Manufacturing Engineer, you will serve as Silgan Container’s Easy Open End subject matter expert. In this role, you can expect to be challenged on a regular basis to find new and creative solutions to complex issues while supporting multiple, highly integrated, production facilities both domestically and internationally.

As a Manufacturing Engineer, you will also partner with Silgan’s OEM suppliers and participate in new equipment buyoffs. Additionally, you will get an opportunity to design new easy open ends for the production of high-quality, economically competitive products. This role requires significant time out of the office on a regular basis to support various manufacturing facilities. This position will be based out of Oconomowoc, WI however; we will consider other geographic areas that are in close proximity of other Silgan facilities.

Job Requirements:

The Essential Job Functions:

  • Provide assistance to manufacturing plants to identify and solve production problems that negatively impact product quality and/or throughput

  • Provide leadership and technological expertise in easy open ends and other areas to achieve corporate objectives within the manufacturing/vendor environments

  • Specific easy open end experience such as:

  • Thorough knowledge of progressive die operations and troubleshooting.

  • Understanding the formation of rivets.

  • Detailed understanding of tab production.

  • Direct major equipment overhauls and audits

  • Work to mentor and share expertise with co-workers

  • Conduct training sessions for supervisors and mechanics on equipment operation and set up

  • Works with suppliers to specify, develop, and debug new products, production equipment and manufacturing lines as required to produce products so that Silgan can meet or exceed customer performance requirements

  • Contribute to design and modification of complex tooling required to produce new and innovative products

  • Conduct equipment buyoffs to insure capability, efficiencies, and product specifications are met

  • Identify safety hazards with equipment design and operation at OEM and plant levels

  • Provide technical interface and support to various internal departments as a critical team member to accomplish special project objectives

  • Provide timely, efficient communication to customers internal and external to the business, and ensure that customer requirements are clearly understood.

  • Design new easy open end products

  • Travel on a regular basis to production facilities and equipment vendors as required up to 60%

  • Proven ability to self-manage and deliver results

  • Perform all job functions within the established business practices and processes

  • Ensure compliance with all safety and work rules and regulations

Education, Skills, and Experience:

  • BS in Mechanical / Manufacturing Engineering or comparable Easy Open End experience

  • Extensive manufacturing, mechanical, or machinist experience in can or end manufacturing industry will be considered in lieu of degree work

  • 3+ years of can or end experience

  • Exceptional problem solving and organizational skills

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively present information to top management, internal and external customers in a professional manner

  • Strong technical leadership, organization, and teamwork

  • Proficient in AutoCAD and 3D CAD modeling

  • Strong Microsoft Office skills
