Job Summary *
TheFacilities Systems Tech Senior Generator Technician performs a variety of skilled and technical tasks in the inspection, repair, preventive, and corrective maintenance and modification on Internal Combustion (IC) engines, diesel generators, and other IC gaseous engines; tests, replaces or adjusts engine components such as Fuel sensors, starters, emissions systems, and other related systems; and, interprets schematic wiring and modifies diesel control circuits. Incumbents perform routine task and as proficiency increases incumbents, may perform more difficult assignments. The Generator Technician class is distinguished from the Senior Generator Technician in that in addition to the latter having independent responsibility for completing task of a complex nature, Senior Generator Technicians may also serve as team leader and provide technical insight over projects. General supervision is provided by a Supervising Generator Technician or a higher-level administrative or division manager. The equipment are located within US-only areas of Intelligence and Security Command (INSCOM) Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities (SCIFs).
Principal Accountabilities *
· Provides critical advanced technical knowledge in support of unique security requirements inherent in Intelligence and Security Command (INSCOM) Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities (SCIFs ) operations including sound baffling techniques/equipment and the resolution of compromising electrical currents, as sustainment of high system availability rates.
· Assists on all facility engineering projects requiring technical analysis of environmental support system issues, with special emphasis on evaluating the impact of proposed design changes on unique state-of-the-art Intelligence and Electronic Warfare (IEW) equipment employing new scientific technologies.
· Assist and participate in routine inspections and make modifications to IC engines, diesel generators, and associated equipment.
· Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS) and annunciator panels.
· Perform load testing on units to identify possible problems and prevent wet stacking.
· Make electrical and mechanical wiring modifications to diesel control circuits.
· Rebuild and repair gas compressors (turbochargers) used for forced-induction of IC engines, head gaskets, seals, water pumps, catalytic converters, torque heads, belts and hoses.
· Conduct automatic and manual transfer tests of simulated power outages to ensure generators are functioning properly.
· Transport and dispose hazardous materials.
· Other related duties may also be performed; not all duties listed are necessarily performed by each individual holding this classification.
· Performs periodic, worldwide deployments in strategic and tactical mobile facility environments. Provides expert technical assistance for a 24-hour operational environment with limited documentation resources. Responds to off-duty (evening and weekend) calls to support critical system outages and to provide rapid fault isolation and resolution concerning environmental factors affecting IEW system performance.
· Provides critical highly skilled technical expertise for emergency fault isolation and resolution of critical IEW electronic environmental control systems and scientific devices; develops engineering and other technical documentation for IEW support system layouts.
· Supports customer systems on site whenever and wherever deployed. Available to deploy to other countries and/or theaters to perform quick reaction technical support to US forces worldwide military contingency missions and requirements in potentially hazardous work environments.
Knowledge & Skills *
· Engine Control systems and other program logic controls that are associated with IC power generation.
· Basic hydro mechanical engines, full authority digital engine control.
· Technique in tracking, transporting, and disposing hazardous materials.
· Interpreting electrical and mechanical drawings.
· Identifying and repairing problems with engine control systems.
· Correcting wet stacking conditions.
· Troubleshooting and diagnosing electrical problems.
· Maintaining records manually and electronically.
· Use electrical testing and calibration equipment to include but not limited to: Digital-Volt-OHM-Meters (DVOM), Mega-ohmmeters, Oscilloscopes, Power Quality Meters, and Loop Calibrators.
· Use calibrated mechanical tools to include but not limited to: torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, and vacuum and pressure manometers.
· Interpret and analyze characteristics of oil samples.
· Climb into confined spaces that may contain hazardous gas.
· Able to perform all duties to ensure timely, courteous and quality support to customer or customer affiliates.
Experience & Education *
High School Diploma or equivalent (GED), relevant trade school/apprenticeship training
Successful completion of a two-year technical electrical or mechanical trade school; or military training/apprenticeship. MOS 12P, 1142, 3E0X2, fireman (engine/mechanical apprentice) (FN)
Four years of experience in the general maintenance, servicing, and repair of diesel and gas engines and other electrical systems related to light and heavy-duty machinery and mechanical equipment.
Required to meet US government accepted and industry standards criteria for technically complex computer environmental systems, uninterrupted power distribution systems, and power control equipment.
Physical Requirements/Working Environment *
Able to maneuver in small spaces and lift up to 50lbs.
