Job Summary

TheCYS Specialistadministers and implements a developmentally appropriate early childhood, youth services and youth sports program.

Principal Accountabilities

(Typical duties include the following, although specific duties vary by assignment or contract.)

  • Plans and implements daily and weekly program activities and creates developmentally appropriate environment and lessons, utilizing one or more of the following curriculum and resources from the Council on Accreditation (COA) guidelines, National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), Creative Curriculum Boys & Girls Club of America (B&GCA), 4-H, and Character Counts!.

  • Oversees child and youth program assistants.

  • Responsible for the administration of the facility to include implementation of age appropriate programs, budgeting and financial management, personnel management, program operations, and compliance, among other tasks.

  • Serves as a mandatory reporter to Family Advocacy and Child Protective Services as prescribed by local policy in the case of suspected incidences of child abuse and neglect.

  • Establishes a program environment that sustains participant interest and promotes positive interactions with other children, youth, and adults.

  • Participates in conferences with parents and staff.

  • Monitors food service program for assigned area ensuring compliance with all applicable Army and USDA food program policies and procedures to include proper meal components and portion sizes. Maintains food program records as required.

  • Ensures compliance with health, fire, safety, facility and program regulatory requirements and CYS baseline standards.

  • Assists in achieving and maintaining applicable certification and national accreditation or equivalent.

  • Provides care and supervision, oversight, and accountability for program participants in compliance with local policies, guidance, and standards.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to interact effectively with children, parents, program staff, and school personnel

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and basic computer skills.

  • Child Care National Agency Check (CNACI) may be required

Experience & Education

  • Two (2) years of children and youth group program supervision or administration experience with a related bachelor's degree.

  • An equivalent combination of additional related experience may be considered in lieu of a Bachelor's Degree.

  • CPR and First Aid Certifications.

Physical Requirements/Working Environment

  • Must be able to work extended hours, often with short notice. Extended hours may include late nights, early mornings, weekends and holidays.

  • Position will be assigned to overseas locations where living and working conditions at assignment location could be remote and uncomfortable, with long hours, exposure to weather, dust, and hazardous/harsh conditions
