The Central Underwriting Territories Team is looking for an Underwriting Technical Leader. We are seeking Underwriter candidates who can operate at a mastery level and are considered technical experts in the medical underwriting field. Role responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Training, project management, and mentoring others.

  • Works primarily on complex or high visibility cases, markets or underwriting methods.

  • Support Underwriting Managers as backup.

  • Negotiates and explains application of more complex underwriting concepts, rate/fee development and policies.

  • Produce accurate and timely deliverables while providing superior customer service in support of stated mission and key performance metrics.


  • 7-10 years of extensive medical pricing experience and knowledge of how systems support these arrangements.

  • Ability to work effectively with customers (internal and external) to meet their needs as well as Aetna's.

  • Strong ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management and cross functionally with sales and other area.

  • Ability to use standard corporate software packages and corporate applications.


  • The highest level of education desired for candidates in this position is a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.


  • 7-10 Years Functional -Underwriting/Pricing methodologies (manual, experience, blended, alternate, etc.)

  • 7-10 Years Functional - Underwriting/Rating methodologies and/or functions (rating and accounting)./

  • 7-10 Years Functional -Underwriting/Renewal - group medical

  • 7-10 Years Functional -Underwriting/New business - group medical
