The Med Surgical Charge Nurse (RN) evaluates, assists, intervenes, plans, and documents patient care. They work in collaboration with the Nurse Manager, coordinating and supervising the nursing activities within the department. They act as the Primary Clinical Resource to staff. They work collaboratively with the staffing office to support Patient Though-put and Bed Placement. Charge nurses assist in departmental Process Improvement, Core Measures and Patient Satisfaction initiatives.

Registered Nurses are advocates and health educators for patients, families, and communities. They develop and manage nursing care plans, instruct patients and their families in proper care, and help individuals and groups take steps to improve or maintain their health. Charge Nurses perform based on the Nurse Practice Act and the American Nursing Association (ANA) standards.

Patient Assessment/Documentation Provides and documents patient care based on the nursing process in compliance with hospital policies and procedures. Plans, delegates and coordinates the nursing care of assigned patients. Utilizes basic physical and psychosocial assessment skills to identify actual nursing diagnosis/clinical problems based on assessment of patient and unique age specific needs.
Patient Rights The Charge Nurse will work to support and protect the rights of each patient served, treats each patient with dignity and care, and maintains patient confidentiality/privacy. Patient Safety Demonstrates commitment to patient safety initiatives including patient fall prevention, medication safety, National Patient Safety Goals, critical value reporting, and administration of blood products. Patient/Family Education Provides appropriate patient/family education, per department and hospital policy and procedures.

*Required Education: *Graduated from an accredited school of nursing. Level entry training may be a Diploma Program in Nursing or an Associate Degree in Nursing

*Required License/Certification: *Florida RN License

American Heart Association BLS Health Care Provider

-ACLS within 6 months of hire

*Preferred Experience: *Minimum of 2 years clinical experience
