Marsh & McLennan Accounting Operations Manager in Ottawa, Ontario

The Accounting Operations Manager supervises the Fiduciary Accounting department of ENCON’s Group and Retiree Benefits and Underwriting Management business units. Ensures completion of tasks and assignments by established due dates controlling the quality and consistency of the work. Acts as a second level of problem resolution. Essential Functions Interviews and selects candidates, conducts performance management, and fosters employee development. Monitors staff functions and mentors and provides feedback to employees. Assists in scheduling monthly tasks and/or assignments to be completed and assigns deadlines. Effectively allocates work among staff performing various accounting functions that may include premium accounting, financial reporting, or financial support and analysis. Ensures completion of reports according to due dates. Ensures compliance with company accounting policies and approval procedures. .May perform monthly revenue analysis; reporting and variances analysis. Maintenance and set up of pool structures in co-ordination with Actuarial team while ensuring internal controls and insurer requirements are met. Claims replenishment reporting to insurers within the required monthly deadlines Handling insurer audit requests as it relates to the accounting functions. Liaises with the Urbandale Accounting Hub, the Controller, FP&A and Treasury May maintain an expertise of key accounts and special program business. Provides analytical support and guidance to the other departments as needed. Analyzes and completes various ad hoc requests based on management needs Other duties as assigned. Requirements: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience preferred. Associates degree and one year of college accounting required. Minimum two years experience in a related field - Accounting, Finance... Prior supervisory experience of 3-5 years required. Effective written and verbal communication skills to effectively interact with others. Effective organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple tasks. Detail oriented to ensure accuracy. Excellent problem solving skills to resolve departmental issues. Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to provide team with a clear sense of direction. Ability to motivate and coach staff in a team environment. Effective analytical skills. Strong computer skills and the ability to adapt to new systems and navigate through multiple systems without assistance. Proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel.
