This position will be working as a part of an extremely dynamic team of professionals supporting all aspects of the School of Medicine and the creation of the infrastructure, process, and procedures for the Kaiser Permanente School of Medicine. Reporting to the Associate Dean for Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity (EI&D), the Director of Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity will develop strategy, implementation, and oversight of EI&D programs which align with the mission, vision, and values of the Kaiser Permanente School of Medicine. The Director will provide supervision and oversight of staff ensuring that the identified goals and objectives of the EI&D component of the school are accomplished in accordance with established priorities, standards of quality and customer service. The Director will assess potential barriers and develop strategies focused on recruiting and retaining a diverse student body.
Manages the administration of EI&D related program activities and services directed to students who enroll in a Kaiser Permanente School of Medicine program of study.
Designs training initiatives and other curriculum on cultural competency, gender differences, disability, sexual harassment, and other topics designed to increase awareness and support of equity, inclusion, and diversity values
Develops and facilitates EI&D related workshops, meetings, seminars, and orientations for faculty.
Participates in and advises the recruitment and retention of underrepresented groups to the School of Medicine.
Serves as liaison with students, faculty, staff, administration, and external constituencies in facilitating EI&D objectives.
Manages the department budget, including developing budget proposals, justifying expenses and monitoring accounts.
Monitors, evaluates, and assesses adequacy of diversity of candidates in the hiring and screening process. Works with Human Resources to develop recruitment strategies that attract underrepresented candidates.
Manages the Schools diversity dashboards and facilitate achievement of measure targets.
Participates in staff meetings, professional development seminars, and as a member of KPSOM internal and external committees, as requested/required.
Represents the EI&D program at various community and student functions.
Manages and administers needs assessment; evaluates and analyzes EI&D related student services activities effectiveness; develops recommendations; implements activities as required and takes appropriate action to ensure efficiencies and accuracy.
Helps to administer academic counseling and ongoing support services to medical students.
Manages consultation services and prepares comprehensive reports as needed for submission to the Associate Dean for Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity
Advocates and champions student wellness and overall student success.
Conducts special projects as assigned.
Minimum five (5) years of experience is required in the following areas: design and successful execution of diversity strategies and programs in large, complex organizations; diversity product development and management.
Minimum five (5) years of experience in collaboration and negotiation.
Bachelor's degree in a health care field, business administration, human resources management, industrial/organizational psychology, law or related field OR four (4) years of experience in a directly related field.
High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
License, Certification, Registration
Thorough knowledge of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, the 1991 Civil Rights Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, Affirmative Action, Equal Employment Opportunity, and other applicable laws.
Broad and deep knowledge of diversity involving strategy implementation, designing and implementing workforce inclusion strategies.
Proven cultural competency expertise.
Strong knowledge of and experience in the various components of diversity management.
Knowledge of training, conflict resolution and mediation methods.
