The Public Service Sector consulting practice is a trusted advisor to federal, state and local governments, partnering to meet challenges and responding quickly to citizen demands, business needs, new economic conditions, and changing legislative priorities and policies.

This position requires architecture design and support of both client programs and cloud environments. The Technical Infrastructure Architect will support projects and programs supported by the IBM Federal Infrastructure Managed Services (FIMS) program. The Technical Infrastructure Architect will work in close coordination with other architects and the engineering team to understand the overall business and systems architecture and provide technical leadership in the integration and delivery of system components. This position focuses on all aspects of the infrastructure including architecture, engineering, design, installation, configuration and security compliance. It requires an experienced, certified and hands-on technical architect with a range of experiences including virtualization, datacenter, co-location/Cloud, storage, networking, security, Windows, and Linux. Examples of architecture support tasks listed below.

  • Provide expertise and leadership for the overall systems architecture

  • Ensure federal regulatory & security requirements are integrated into all architecture solutions

  • Discovering, modeling, and mapping business processes to the technical systems architecture

  • Architect and manage migration of components into the cloud environment

  • Assistance in security design and deployment

  • Lead technical integration tasks as required

  • Create and maintain detailed technical documentation of the environment including network diagrams

  • Ensure the completion and quality of systems architecture deliverables

  • Architect, design and implement enterprise technologies and service offerings within the cloud environment

  • Participate in special projects as required

  • Detailed knowledge of NIST SP800-53 security controls and risk management framework for Federal Systems

  • Provide technical leadership and coordination with other architects and engineering and delivery teams

Preferred candidates will have an active US DoD Secret security clearance.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

  • 15 years IT operations, engineering and architecture experience

  • 10 years server, storage, network and cloud architecture and operations experience

  • Strong understanding of storage, server, virtualization and networking technologies (SME in one)

  • Strong Cloud Computing knowledge including exposure and/or experience with AWS and/or AZURE

  • Strong system design and requirements traceability background

  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing technology requirements

  • Strong communication, presentation, and documentation skills

  • Able to navigate fast-paced and rapidly evolving environments

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a US DoD Secret security clearance

Preferred Tech and Prof Experience

  • Active DoD Secret security clearance

  • Architecture Certification • Security + Certification or above

  • Certified Cloud Security Professional (CCSP) Certification or equivalent security certification and/or experience

  • Working knowledge of container and microservices platforms (e.g. Kubernetes, Docker)

  • Ability to clearly articulate technical requirements and relate them to business objectives

  • Experience with the Agile methodology and Scrum framework
