Design, develop, troubleshoot and debug software programs for databases, applications, tools, networks etc.

As a member of the software engineering division, you will assist in defining and developing software for tasks associated with the developing, debugging or designing of software applications or operating systems. Provide technical leadership to other software developers. Specify, design and implement modest changes to existing software architecture to meet changing needs.

Duties and tasks are varied and complex needing independent judgment. Fully competent in own area of expertise. May have project lead role and or supervise lower level personnel. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 4 years of software engineering or related experience.

Software Engineer

Thisindividual will be a senior member of the Engineering organization supportingcritical internal DNS systems. They will function primarily as a developmentresource but will also assist in troubleshooting operational issues as-needed.Day-to-day activities will range from participating in Scrum ceremony toapplication design and solution development. The ideal candidate will beself-motivated and possess a wide range of skills and experience, from strongunderstanding of the networking stack to building highly fault-tolerantservices. As a senior engineer, this individual should have the ability tounderstand business needs and strike a good balance between business goals andtechnical implementations.

Major Duties:

  • Implement and support Oracle Dyn internal DNS, including tooling and automation

  • Analyze business needsinterpreting those to develop technical needs, user stories and eventuallydeployable systems

  • Evaluate variousimplementations to determine compliance with business needs and external specifications

  • Perform troubleshooting andcoordinate problem resolution activities with engineering and support teams

  • Establish and maintainproductive relationships with peer service teams


  • Demonstrated ability todeliver the items listed in the major duties section

  • At least 3 years experiencewith Linux operating systems, such as Ubuntu or FreeBSD

  • At least 5 years experiencein application development

  • Expertise with astatically-typed language, such as Java or Go.

  • Demonstrable knowledge of distributedsystem fundamentals: networking, reparallelism/concurrency, high availability,load balancing, and graceful degradation

  • Can clearly explain conceptsto technical and non-technical audiences through writing and conversation

  • Demonstrated ability to workeffectively across organizational boundaries and within groups

  • Should be a flexible andresourceful team player that is able to thrive in a fast-paced, constantlychanging environment

  • Creative thinking andcritical analysis are essential

Desirable Experience:

  • Deploying and administratingnameservers, such as BIND

  • Architectural, development,and operational concerns of cross-datacenter applications

  • Using configurationmanagement tools like Docker, Chef, Ansible, etc.

  • Administering databases andapplication servers such as MySQL, ORACLE RAC, Apache etc.

  • Knowledge of Internetprotocols and standards, specifically DNS and HTTP
