IBM z/OS Systems Programmer in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
This role provides the underlying system platform programming support on which applications are developed and/or deployed. Their expertise is required in many environments which may include operating systems, application development platforms, networking, packaged software, etc. The employee guides functional objectives or technologies.
Professional knowledge related to incumbent's function/business unit and its processes.
Advise other professionals. Effectively utilize group dynamics. Negotiate to define approaches and goals.
Recognize complex problems related to functional objectives. Analyze situations and implement solutions, or develop new system elements, procedures or processes. Creativity and judgment applied to developmental work on different projects within the business environment.
Provides ongoing technical /operational guidance to lead professional work teams, conducts special projects, or manages department(s) (national or international). Understand department/ functional mission and vision. Defines and decides objectives within specified business concept or project and may have responsibility for tools and assigned resources. Utilizes expertise to directly influence people outside department or function. Sometimes no precedent exists.
Impact on Business/Scope:
Accountable for department results and for activities and/or projects involving multi-functional teams. Regularly participates in overall functional program planning. Activities are subject to business measurements, impact customer satisfaction, and impact project costs or expenses.
Work location can be Columbia, MO, RTP, NC or Poughkeepsie, NY.
Required Technical and Professional Expertise
• z/OS and related mainframe program products support, SMP/E, Assembler
• Cope with stressors and demands that are associated with the job and/or the work environment so that acceptable and defined levels of performance and overall contribution are maintained. (While all jobs involve dealing with stressors, the particular stressors may vary job to job).
• Work in areas which adhere to state and federal regulatory standards, or where no such standards exist, to nationally accepted guidelines; i.e., dust, fumes, physical and chemical agents.
• Adaptable and flexible to work environment including, but not limited to, out of town travel as required to meet business commitments and working overtime, as business needs may require, handling multiple tasks concurrently, and easily adapting to new assignments, system, tools; produce clear, concise, accurate written communication, clearly conveying thoughts and ideas to peers, management, and customers.
Preferred Tech and Prof Experience
5+ years as z/OS Systems Programmer
z/OS, SMPE, JES2, OMVS, Unix System Services, IBM and ISV program products knowledge, Mainframe experience, Problem and Change management, Customer facing skills, Self Starter and highly motivated, strong communication and willing and able to work in a team environment, 24x7 support environment
Disaster/Recovery, GDPS/Hyperswap, Parallel Sysplex, VSAM RLS, CA-Top Secret experience a plus.
