Corporate Risk

Risk management at Wells Fargo is organized with clearly defined lines of defense to provide effective risk oversight and decision-making across the organization. Each line of defense is assigned specific responsibilities and understands the associated activities it is expected to perform.

Independent risk management is Corporate Risk, which is responsible for independent oversight of risk-taking activities. The function is led by the chief risk officer, who reports to the chair of the Risk Committee of the Board of Directors. Strategic enterprise function-aligned leaders in the Corporate Risk organization provide an independent view of horizontal, cross-business risks.

The Role

The Operational Risk Business Workforce Initiatives leader is responsible for being the business’s interface and primary liaison with enterprise partners in Human Resources, Recruiting, and Learning and Development to help implement and drive the business processes talent management, organizational planning, training, and onboarding. This leader and is expected to engage with senior leaders and work across the Operational Team to drive the core processes that help us identify top talent to help fill critical positions across our Operational Risk team. This leader will establish and drive weekly, monthly and quarterly routines with the Operational Risk leadership council and provide reporting and insights to the Operational Risk extended leadership team regarding staffing, our recruiting pipeline, and the progress we are making to meet our hiring goals. This leader will also help drive critical workstreams for our target operating model related to training, operational risk performance objectives, and staffing and capabilities assessments.

This role will have significant interaction and visibility with the Chief Operational Risk Officer and his leadership council, as well as with other leaders in Corporate Risk and in the lines of business. A team will be built to support this leader and the core processes and routines that will be established in this function.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Build out the and core business processes to drive workforce planning, recruiting and administration for Operational Risk, including ongoing routines and reporting

  • Build out the Business Workforce Initiatives team

  • Act as primary liaison with Human Resources, recruiting, and learning & development teams to support the Operational Risk leader team in the planning and approvals for staffing, resources, training, and onboarding

  • Lead the Operational Risk engagement in all core Talent Management processes, including Talent Reviews

  • Lead Operational Risk staffing assessments, skills assessments, and partner with Human resources on level and compensation reviews, as appropriate

  • Establish ongoing weekly, monthly, and quarterly routines with the leadership council and the extended leadership team to manage staff forecasts and planning

  • Drive key Operational Risk Target Operating Model deliverables related to staffing assessments, capabilities assessments, enhanced training, and implementation of enterprise-wide performance objectives

  • Partner with the Operational Risk Administration and Planning leader to ensure that staffing and capacity forecasts are aligned with space management forecasts

  • Partner with the Operational Risk Administration and Planning leader, and our administrative support team, to build out, to centralize and enhance onboarding processes to provide welcoming, informative experiences to all our new team members

  • Manage external vendor relationships initiated to support cross-operational talent management, recruiting, or staff augmentation initiatives for Operational Risk

  • Lead key optimization, planning, and strategic initiatives for the Operational Risk leadership council including talent reviews, staffing assessments, and human resources driven activities and events

  • Act as a direct point of contact with the Human Resources team, and help build out human resources processes and roadmap to ensure our managers and team members are informed, engaged, and enabled to succeed

  • Lead your team with integrity and create an environment where your team members feel included, valued, and supported to do work that energizes them.

  • Accomplish management responsibilities which include sourcing and hiring talented team members, providing ongoing coaching and feedback, recognizing and developing team members, identifying and managing risks, and completing daily management tasks.

Locations: Des Moines IA, Phoenix AZ, Minneapolis MN, San Francisco CA, and Charlotte NC are preferred but will consider other locations within the Wells Fargo footprint.

Required Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in one or more of the following functional areas: business process, quality assurance, strategic planning, or project management

  • 8+ years of management experience

  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy

  • Ability to articulate complex concepts in a clear manner
