IBM Design Researcher in Phoenix, Arizona
We are seeking full-time designers (across various profiles) to work at IBM. Designers will articulate and envision the future of IBM’s entire portfolio of products, ranging from software, hardware to consulting.
Candidates must be willing to work in either Austin, Raleigh, Poughkeepsie, Foster City, San Jose, or Emeryville.
Design Research (RSR): As a Design Researcher, you will specialize in uncovering user needs. You must have a foundation in qualitative and quantitative research methods and a practical ability to interview and observe users. Design Researchers also use analytical techniques and their own judgment to prioritize design work and communicate those results to other members of the design team. Their findings yield insights that can be used to determine what people need from their tools, the exact points where users are abandoning solutions, and even help uncover the next big innovation in a product line.
Required Technical and Professional Expertise
Basic knowledge in designing software products and applications
Portfolio and work samples including user-centered research
Demonstrated ability to translate research findings into specific, prioritized recommendations to improve product designs
Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills, including techniques to persuade and negotiate and the ability to articulate alternative approaches
Demonstrated storytelling and presentation skills
Preferred Tech and Prof Experience
B.S. in Experimental Psychology, Cognitive Science, Human Factors, Human Computer Interaction, Anthropology, Sociology, or related discipline preferred
Experience in solving complex user problems
Understanding of Design principles and their application.
