IBM is looking to hire a Cloud Technical Specialist. The specialist will be responsible for maintaining relationships with key global analysts on a regular basis, to understand their research agendas and market view, and to emphasize IBM Cloud’s differentiated and competitive positioning, as well as respond to key technical competitive reports. The specialist will leverage trusted relationships with key subject matter experts on the offering (product) teams, marketing thought leaders, and our seller/partner networks, in order to collect and curate essential information from the business unit and write persuasive, detailed responses to analyst requests for information, in a way that influences IBM Cloud’s comparative positioning in a positive way.

The specialist will be part of the Analyst Relations Department which sits at the nexus of strategy, product development and sales. An AR professional’s role is to build relationships with key influencers to help IBM stake out its leadership areas in the broad cloud market, by promoting its innovative offerings. The cloud AR specialist plays a critical, cross-functional role by working with experts at many different levels of the organization. The candidate will work closely with offering management, engineering, sales and marketing teams across IBM’s global offices to promote awareness, drive revenue, and influence strategy for IBM cloud. The specialist will leverage strong relationships with key global analysts to promote the key competitive differentiators of IBM cloud, as well as leverage the analysts for key insights that will guide the business unit in market-appropriate directions, driving new levels of success.

The cloud specialist should have a strong background in public and private cloud from a technical standpoint, and understand IT concepts from both IT management and application development viewpoints. They must be fluent in nuancing and building strategic content, have an engineering or technical degree and a background in product marketing. Time spent in market research, data analysis, and competitive positioning would be beneficial. This role requires strong technical as well as analytical skills and experience evaluating qualitative and quantitative research in the cloud space. This candidate must enjoy growing and nurturing relationships and must understand how to influence analysts on IBM cloud relative to competitive strengths and differentiators.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Educate the most influential industry analysts who cover the public and private cloud space about the latest capabilities and innovations in IBM cloud, and how they align with the market.

• Nudge analyst perspective and exploration in ways that underscore IBM’s key capabilities.

• Embed with the IBM cloud business unit to understand the deepest competitive advantages and use this content in competitive reports and in meetings with analysts

• Develop your own list of key analysts who carry the most weight in the industry and strategically track interactions with IBM and competitors.

• Improve IBM cloud ratings in influential reports and evaluations.

• Monitor the competitive landscape and strategic developments in IBM cloud; share relevant analyst research and implications with senior management to shape BU strategy and offerings.

• Engage with sales enablement to deliver content and sessions to help sellers understand the nuances and potential impact of key analyst reports.

• Connect key IBM cloud executives and SME’s with expert cloud analysts for advisory sessions to help define and influence offering strategy.

• Collaborate with colleagues in IBM marketing, sales, offering management, communications legal and BU leadership to ensure that IBM is getting the best representation with the analyst community.

• Manage and procure paid strategic research projects on behalf of IBM to ensure that key analyst firms are actively engaged with IBM offerings

• Have credible and impactful relationships with key influencers and leading cloud industry analysts.

• Develop strategic content for IBM cloud that is leveraged externally to promote cloud business strategy. 


This role can be located in San Francisco, Boston, Austin, New York, or Raleigh-Durham.

Candidate must be willing to travel up to 50% to meet in person with Business Unit executives and key global analysts and influencers.

Applicants must have the ability to work in the US without current/future need for IBM sponsorship.






REQUIRED PROFESSIONAL & TECHNICAL EXPERTISE

• 8+ years of public and private cloud work experience in more than one functional area such as: cloud engineering, cloud product marketing, cloud strategy and development, cloud product management

• 5 years of experience in building compelling strategic content, leveraging a deep understanding of the competitive landscape.

• Executive presence in order to carry weight with senior management regarding the market, competitive landscape and analyst outlook.

• Candidates must have the tenacity, determination and patience to be able to challenge conventional thinking and processes.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to crystalize the most important points from a large sea of information.

• Ability to handle multiple projects and a fast-paced work environment.
