Thermo Fisher Scientific Sr. Director, Finance in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
This position offers the right candidate the opportunity to lead the commercial finance operations team and provide business partnership for the RSD North America commercial organization to drive strategic initiatives and profitable growth. This position reports to Vice President, Finance and Vice President, Commercial Ops.
This position requires demonstrated strong leadership and a solid track record in business partnership for a large size business
Provide strong business partnership to VP, Commercial Ops in order to make key business decisions to drive profitable growth
Lead the commercial finance and sales optimization teams to partner with commercial leaders (segment VPs and region VPs) to support RFP/retentions, annual price roll, sales analytics, increase commercial team productivity, and provide business insights/advice to leaders, including risks and opportunities
Lead Business Insights & Analytics and Sales Analytics & Reporting teams to drive productivity, standardization of commercial reporting, and sales analytics
Provide leadership, guidance and support to drive productivity through technology investments including CRM systems (Salesforce.com), PowerBI, and sales team hardware.
Build a strong finance and sales operations team, coach/develop key talents across the finance organization, and maintain a continuous focus on making Thermo Fisher Scientific one of the world’s best places to work.
Lead the development and preparation of the annual strategic plan, annual budget, monthly forecasts, and monthly results analysis for respective commercial leaders
Drive continuous improvement and standardization in reporting and analytics across commercial teams. Understand key business operating metrics (price realization, volume performance, customer/segment/product mix, Std GM expansion, spending, etc.) and measure performance to the established metrics
Provide analytical and pro-active business assessment information to make sound business decisions (e.g. product line profitability, pricing, promotions, rebates, and customer profitability)
Responsible to provide timely, accurate and insightful reporting to the leadership team and other stakeholders, as requested and as required, to ensure key business issues are communicated and acted upon in a timely manner, thus ensuring quality, transparency, and integrity; including follow-up on unusual, unexpected, or unexplained results
Identify, communicate, and recommend/implement corrective actions to improve business profitability
Prepares business case and financial analysis/justifications of investment projects
Drive creation and assist in delivery of executive presentations
Perform special projects and ad-hoc financial reporting as required
12-15+ years of progressive experience in finance, pricing and commercial operations matrix organization within a large company.
Demonstrated history of driving businesses to growth, improving processes and performance, improving productivity and meeting financial objectives
Previous demonstrated experience in customer proposal, pricing and growth strategies
Strong track record of accurate and timely financial reporting and analytics
Strong team building skills and the proven ability to work with a diverse group of people.
Ability to interface effectively at the executive level with key business partners to succinctly summarize key information and play a leadership role in formulating key business strategies, both to deliver on the current quarter forecast commitments, as well as plan longer term for growth in the business
Strong analytical skills with attention to detail (emphasis on accuracy and timeliness) while being able to step back and analyze the overall business impact
Track record of strong business partnering skills and developing meaningful relationships at all levels within an organization, and can operate effectively in a matrix reporting structure.
Effective communication and presentation skills and ability to work with different cultures and leadership styles
High level of performance and results; can bring a passion to excel. Able to motivate and influence a wide spectrum of people, including senior financial and operational professionals.
Power user of Microsoft Excel, proficient in MS Office Word and PowerPoint
Ability and willingness to travel (15% - 20%)
Non-Negotiable Hiring Criteria:
Bachelors Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business or other relevant background
12-15+ years of progressive experience in pricing and finance work experience
Effective verbal and written communication skills in English
