What You’ll Get to Do:
You will be part of a team maintaining the nation's largest and most complex national defense assets. As a recognized subject matter expert you will provide engineering services support to the Norfolk Naval Shipyard Engineering Department including Job Summary and E-Spec writing, waterfront problem resolution, ship checks, marine drawing development, selected record updates and other technical work document preparation, and work control and equipment tag out support. Support Advanced Planning preparation and assist with coordination of a test program for complex ship's systems (primarily electrical and mechanical). Assist in preparing procedures, determining special equipment required, , monitor test performance, evaluate and analyze test data and results, prepare reports outlining test results, interpret test results and make recommendations on validity of test.
Support Advanced Planning preparation and assist with coordination of a work control and tag out program for complex ship's systems (primarily electrical and mechanical and combat systems).
Perform data gathering, data collection and analysis. Conduct shipboard track walks to verify accuracy and collect data as required to correct the vessel's diagrams and documents.
Perform technical evaluations for acceptable substitutes for materials.
Prepare technical working documents such as Job Summaries and Task Group Instructions
Act as a troubleshooter in the identification and resolution of problems encountered onboard the ship or shop during the removal, installation, grooming or testing hhases of waterfront production efforts.
Perform advanced planning preparation of Job Summaries, E-Specifications and other technical work document including material identification, and ordering, planning and estimating.
Perform ship checks, calculations, provide engineering effort to design and develop Ship Installation Drawings (SIDs), onsite engineering functions, combat systems support, update and correction of selected record drawings, perform calculations and design analysis, update drawing schedules, develop ship check reports, weight and moment data and other technical data ad specifications necessary to accomplish a full range of alterations, repairs and improvements to naval ships.
You’ll Bring These Qualifications:
Active Secret clearance
Must have a Professional Engineer's License or the following: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Naval Architecture and a minimum of six years practical design engineering experience, or six years of practical field engineering experience, providing problem analysis and resolution including system and component troubleshooting, for U.S. Naval Ships or submarines, at a professional level, in responsible engineering duties, including the following which may have been gained concurrently.
Minimum of two years consecutive experience (within the last five years) involving practical design and working plan development or practical field engineering for construction, conversion or modernization and repair of U.S. Naval Ships (does not include maritime shop design) in the specialty required herein.
A degree in Engineering Technology is not considered equivalent to the required Bachelors of Engineering Degree.
Advanced planning position requires knowledge of and experience with the use of the Advanced Technical Information Support (ATIS), Advanced Industrial Maintenance (AIM and Material Requirement (MRQT) data bases
