Amentum Engineering Technologist in Portsmouth, Virginia

Job Summary

Amentum is seeking an Engineering Technologist to support our Portsmouth, VA location. Successful candidates will act as cognizant leads for the review of their specific electronic systems, and have the responsibility to confirm that their systems are properly integrated with the systems of other cognizant leads on the same team.

Essential responsibilities and experience needed:

  • Support the review and adjudication of systems network integration.

  • Oversight review and documentation (NOT design)however, successful candidates may have to participate in the adjudication of integration issues.

  • Network and Integration experience in the design and installation of shipboard communication cables, blown optical fiber, and - various electronic systems (either surface or submarine).

Minimum Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen

  • Active DoD Secret security clearance

  • Vocational/Technical school, Associates degree and at least 6 years of job-related experience or equivalent.

  • Network and Integration experience in the design and installation of shipboard communication cables, blown optical fiber, and - various electronic systems (either surface or submarine).

  • A minimum of five years experience in the following areas:

  • The design or physical installation of shipboard communication and fiber optic cables

  • The ability to read and clearly understand cable and fiber optic drawings, network diagrams, wiring tables, and associated vendor to confirm signal paths.

  • The ability to accurately research, identify, and confirm cable connectors, backshells, and fiber details in accordance with appropriate military standards.

  • Proficient in accurately processing line-by-line cable connection details and develop the accompanying status documentation.

  • Possess excellent organization, documentation, and writing skills.

  • The ability to work independently, accurately, and on schedule with low level of supervisory direction.

  • A command of the Microsoft Office suite of applications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology

  • Significant experience with blown optical fiber cable design drawings/disclosures and fusion splicing

  • 10 years of the “Minimum Requirements” experience listed above, plus:

  • Specific experience with SWFTS and/or C4I (Common Submarine Radio Room (CSRR) experience is highly preferred)

  • Proficient using the military standards associated with electronic cabling and fiber optic cabling.

  • Planning Yard experience designing electronic and/or fiber optic cabling drawings/disclosures

  • Installation Planning, System Design, and/or AIT experience

  • Experience in the design or installation of electronic and/or fiber optic cables

  • Experience working with ShipAlts, TempAlts, ECIs, and their associated change requests

  • Attention to detail and following Standard Operating Procedures

  • Knowledge of the USN shipbuilding modernization and configuration control processesAIT or LMA experience
